Show us your bicycles.

A few years ago I had one of these, full carbon CR1 frame stunners. You could pick it up with your little finger.

Then realised I spent more time worried about it when it was locked up than actually enjoying riding it.

So I bought one of these for £150 about 5 years ago second hand and its simply brilliant for buzzing around London, I think I got a bargain.

I don't leave any of my bikes anywhere, not even for 2 mins. I take it into garages and shops with me when I need to or only leave it if its with my mate and his bike.

Some old bikes of mine -

If I can I will too, but its simply not practical most of the time, other Sainsbury's shoppers dont appreciate people walking around with a bike in the aisles

To be honest, I much prefer having a bike that if it got nicked, I would just count it as bad luck rather than being obsessed over a hugely expensive carbon bike which makes little or no difference to my progress around town etc.

Nice 2-Hip, love a 40lb+ late 90's/early 00's bmx

That was a cool bike... believe it or not I was after a BMX, went in this bike shop and saw that (built up using pretty cheap parts by the shop) and a racing BMW, and bought the pair for £300 total.

That "unbranded fun bike" was such a laugh... fox forks, 8 speed shimano rear mech, £150. Used to love bombing around on that! Back when I lived in London and didn't feel completely unsafe riding on the road, unlike now in Surrey.

I've a few (probably too many) bikes, split across Road and MTB.

Most of my social circle are roadies, so the bike breakdown is skewed in that direction as well (although I'm hoping to convert some of them to off-road advocates in the new year, so I'll have more people to ride with then).

My current "good" bike - custom build Giant TCR Advanced Disc. Finished in June of this year, just in time to cycle from Bologna to Zurich, taking in the Gotthard Pass* along the way. (*apparently. The weather/visibility was so bad, I could have been anywhere)

TCRLugano.jpg

The outgoing "good" bike - custom build Giant Defy Advanced Pro Disc. Built up in 2019, and been on quite a few high altitude adventures across Europe. It's supposed to be replaced by the TCR, however I'm struggling to bring myself to sell it.
Defy Advnaced Disc 0.jpg
(from a previous trip up the Gotthard via Old Tremola Rd - significantly better weather)
DefyGalibier.jpg

The other bikes:

2016 Defy Advanced Disc 2 - my first foray into disc brakes (on a road bike). The first bike I really travelled with - conquered the Stelvio, Fluela, Madonna Di Ghisallo, Muro Di Sormano, and countless other climbs in south Switzerland/north Italy. It was relegated to my turbo trainer for a while when the Defy above came along, and is now being stripped down for sale.
Defy Advanced Disc 2 Ghisallo.jpg

2009 Defy 2 - my first road bike. Cut my teeth on bike maintenance & upgrades with this, and planted the seed for building up the bikes that have followed it. I loved this bike, so much so that, after I sold it in 2016, I then spent the past 8 years seeking out the same model 2nd hand to use as a winter bike - I finally found one in January of this year!
Defy 2 Lake Reschen.jpg

....continued (told you I've too many)

2013 Defy 1 - bought as a winter bike in 2021. Faultless, easy to maintain. It's now sitting on my turbo trainer, where it shall remain.
2013 Defy 1.jpg

2013 Boardman FS Pro 650 - The only bike on this list that is not still in my possession. I had 2 x Giant Talon hardtails previously, however an opportunity to move to full suspension arrived in the form my local Halfords having a crazy clearance sale, and so I ended up with this for peanuts. When I upgraded to the newer model (below), I brought a friend out for a spin on this as a sales pitch. He crashed, breaking both arms in the process. He did not buy the bike. However, upon hearing that it had tried to kill my friend, one of my colleagues decided to buy it instead. He has not broken any arms......yet.
BoardmanFSPro1.jpg

2016 Boardman FS Pro Team - in many ways the same as the bike above, but with cable routing for a dropper post, which I convinced myself I had to have (because, you know, it was holding me back). Borderline indestructible, the biking equivalent of the Top Gear Toyota Hilux. It has it's limits, and will probably be replaced in 2025, but probably the best value for money bike I've owned.
BoardmanFSPro2.jpg

I've recently had my head turned by lightweight eMTBs, and have been demo'ing this for the past few weeks - Specialized Turbo Levo SL. Great on the climbs (as you'd expect from an assisted bike), and the extra weight of the battery/motor is not that noticeable on the way back down, or when flying through the air. Lightweight/SL eMTBs I think are the sweet spot of assistance, without taking too much away from the playfulness that you have with a lighter analog bike. I'm also not getting any younger, and want to get as many laps in as I can whenever I do take the Boardman out for a spin, so this, or an equivalent (probably an Orbea Rise LT) will be the next purchase.
Turbo Levo SL.jpg

2016 TCR Advnaced 3 - the most recent addition, and my current winter bike. I didn't need this, but it was for sale second hand for silly money. It needed some (minor) work, but it was a carbon framed bike for less than €200, and well within my skillset to make roadworthy. I'd have been stupid not to buy it - this is the official statement I provided to Mrs Calps. Thankfully she was in agreement.
TCRAdvanced32016.jpeg
(Stock photo - not my bike).

I've also accumulated lots of spare parts/frames/wheels over the years. As I sit here typing this, I probably have enough within reach to build up one, if not two more, road bikes. Part of me thinks, if the bike obsession was lessened, there'd be a lot more cashflow to do all the things I've planned for the Z4. Oh well.......

Cannondale M600 Frame and Forks. An old bike I never got to ride... bought it as a "rolling chassis" then worked out a new headset would be more than I paid for the rolling chassis and I ended up selling it on.

And a Charge Blender I messed around on for a while - that was quite a fun bike!

The TCR with Velo6 wheels has the fizz, love it
4 pot hope brakes, that's the mtb-er in you 8)

Very eagle eye'd of you on both counts - thank you.

In truth, I bought the Hopes for the aesthetics - it's just a happy byproduct that they are really good.

Similar story for the Elite's - I originally had some Drive 6's (which I preferred from an aesthetics point of view), however I swapped them for the Velo 6's in the end. They roll really well, not too much bother in crosswinds, and the hub makes an almighty sound so there's no need for a bell

Any way I own a 2021 Canyon Grail. (of course I modified it with extra carbon.)

You can see the aero carbon rear mec and chainring covers.
voHjGcy.jpg

And also a 2023 Canyon Aeroad, which is currently being re framed by Canyon as this one developed an bad creak and apparently I'm getting a 2025 frame, forks and seat post. but here's is a pic of the one I sent away!
According to Canyon's website the new frame alone is £4,300!

And a close up of the aero chainring cover I make.

Some stunning machines there, and love the carbon/aero mods - a credit to your workmanship!

Thanks, I do sell the Chainring covers but the other bits are just one off's to see if I can make them and marginal gains and all that :D

I also have a set of carbon wheel for the Grail and those set up with off gravel tyres on and have some road tyres on the ali rims for winter road rides.
fsdnOq1.jpg

And being a bit of nerd... The deep carbon road wheels are from my Aeroad
YCKzHfy.jpg

I also have my old Jamix Xienth Pro which was my first carbon bike and has sat on my turbo for the last 6 years and gets abused every winter.

Trigger warning......

This was the beginning of this week. the left hand shifter cover just was all sticky and rotten from the years of sweat (Yes I have towel draped over the bars) that when I twisted it, it just fell apart and came off   But I some new ones on order for £8 from eBay China!!

But its all ready for more abuse when he weathers to crappy outside.

Meant to say, I'm loving your wheels on the Giant TCR.

Nice collection and a fixe thrown in for the lols too, I bet that front brake made all difference in trying to slow down

I was never a big fixed gear rider, but I did occasionally. I rode single speed (with two brakes!) in London a lot though.

Quite the collection indeed, and barely 10% of the way through the alphabet!
It does have me wondering though - where do you keep them all!? Please share your secret.
