Hi all , as a number of us are of a certain age, has anyone on here had a rotator cuff surgery? And if so I would be interested in hearing how long it was before you felt strong enough or healed enough to drive, thinking of the M gearshift πŸ€”πŸ‘ And the average time to full or njear full recovery. Tia.

A couple of my friends have had it done & recovery was longer than they were led to believe.
I think it was over 3 months before they could drive, they said they could steer ok but couldn’t change gear!
One of my mates was off work for over 6 months, that was on the railway though, not an office job.

I had a false ligament (ac joint) put in my shoulder after snapping it ( it holds your collar bone down) and my recovery was about 5 months.
The worst bit is having to keep your arm in a sling 24/7 for 6 weeks then I could start some physio. By that time I could hardly move my arm and the pain unbelievable. I was driving though after about 8 or 9 weeks but not far.

Thanks for that, I am 5 weeks post op so one more week in the sling . They said six weeks no driving but I dont feel I could change gear , especially in my vans as they have dash mounted gearshifters as most do nowadays and I t reach forward and up with my shifting arm, I hear there is a high risk of re injury even after several months when it is feeling good. I move pianos so will have to watch it for a long time yet. Started the MC up yesterday , cant wait to get out for a blast, maybe in the next few weeks I hope. Thanks for info πŸ‘

so you had a”seperated β€œ shoulder ? My friend had that one with the collar bone stuck up in the air after crashing on the first morning of a ski trip πŸ˜– . Mine was two snapped R.cuff tendons and they also detatched the bicep and screwed that to my humerous as it was very frayed. Thought I had got away pain free ,..... until the nerve block wore off 24 hours later at my grandsons xmas play. Had to resort to the oramorph the ward sent home with me πŸ˜¬πŸ˜–

Yeah I was the same after my nerve block wore off. I've smashed a few bones in my time and even shattered my tib and fib in the same leg after a high side crash at cadwell park and I can say I had way more pain with the shoulder than the leg.
I smashed an upright piano up for a customer last year as a favour and it took me 3 bloody hours, I had no room in the room it was in and trying to lay it down to cut it up twisted my pickle so I know how you will struggle with your injury, you will have to be so careful. They said if I popped my false tendon which is screwed to my collar bone then they wouldn't do it again and it would just have to stick up and be loose.

Good luck with the recovery and keep taking the painkillers.

I bust my shoulder in 3 places. Rotator cuff, too of humerus and the shoulder blade. Didn't have surgery but was in a sling for 6 weeks. Couldn't drive until 7 weeks and even then it was painful

Had my left shoulder (rotator cuff) done a few years back. IIRC I think I was back driving/working wihin 4-6 weeks. Operation was a great success and was great to be rid of the pain and limited movement.
