Should there be a fox cull?

I have no problem with those that feed their local fox family in return for enjoying watching cubs play in their garden. Their bargain is harmless while people don't leave teeny babes out as snack food.

The louts that throw their KFC and kebab remnants into the gutter certainly need culling. But I suppose that is a separate discussion.

We had a fox take a couple of our aged ducks last year. That was my fault for forgetting to shut them up at dusk. Blaming foxes is like blaming teachers, for some people there is always someone else to blame.
 
A very good appraisal of the situation by nature guru, Chris Packham, on BBC breakfast television this morning and he thought that humans are totally to blame as others have said in this thread with all the food waste readily available in urban areas. The foxes are only trying to survive and the incidents are very very rare where they have attacked babies. A pest control officer on the same programme also said that he thought the foxes were not deliberately trying to attack the babies but were attracted to the milk in babies nappies and when the babies awoke and moved their hands and arms the fox might snap to defend themselves. He has seen foxes being attracted to disposal nappies in waste bins.
 
I certainly don't agree that a cull is necessary, as has already been stated their are far more dangerous things out there

Surely banning that sport (said in the loosest sense of the word because it really isn't) of chasing a fox on horseback with a 100 hounds in pursuit cannot in anyway shape or form be relevant to fox's in urban areas.

and don't get me wrong, my stepfather worked on farm and in my teens, my brother and I would go hunting with him in to the woods, he and made it quite clear there was a rule, eat what you kill, everything else is just plain wrong as there are better forms of pest control.
 
There is an article in the daily mail by a pest control officer. It makes an
interesting read. He is in the front line and says he has seen a massive increase in the urban population in the last 33 years.

Matching the increase in human population and the reduction of green open spaces in urban areas. :wink: Both these two fox 'attacks' are in the London area where I've seen plenty of food refuse, waiting for collection' in black bin bags rather than purpose made dustbins with secure hinged lids used in the area where I live. Shops, takeaways seem to be the worse offenders with rubbish piled on the pavements. Have there been any other recorded 'attacks' by foxes in urban areas outside the London area?
 
I am STRONGLY against a fox cull,
1. Its not required
(More people are killed buy Adders in this country, more people are killed in London by Ice on the pavements)
2. Im not willing to pay for it!!

Its a stupid costly and daft idea that’s been tried before, there are a BILLION more important issues for London council to worry about and pay for thankyou!

Was the door left open or was the Fox tooled up with gloves and a screw driver?

The rumor is that this couples own dog attack there baby.

A fox had bitten A baby - they don't "bite babies". Far more harm is done to children every day by inadequte parents, but we don't cull them do we? Sorry - I'm being flippant...
Although I'm obviously sad to hear of this baby being hurt, it's a very isolated incident, which the tabloid press revel in blowing out of all proportion to their sell papers.

Like Chris Packham, I just don't believe a fox attacked the child. Out of interest the Met Police replied 'no comment' to the question 'does the family own a dog'. :wink:

So it would be natural justice if foxes started attacking gypo's? I say this, cos when they visit, and move on, one of the things they like to leave behind with the rest of their rubbish is full nappies!
 
We have hundreds of hens, ducks, peacock, rheas etc etc. I have firearms licence and cull my own foxes.
 
Kill foxes, ' cos it saves having to look after your babies properly,

You could then go out and leave them at home safe in the knowledge....
