Should I swap to an Audi A5 3.0 TDI?

We went from a 2.0ltr petrol RS250 Megane to a 2010 A5 Cabriolet 2.0Tdi 170bhp. Worst decision I've made in my motoring life.

Lovely looking car but lifeless to drive in all honesty. Fitted a DTUK box to take it upwards of 200bhp and it was torquey as hell and better to drive but still not for me as a 'drivers' car. Bought it Apr, sold it in Aug!!

Admittedly, you're looking at the 3.0ltr but you need to test drive one against the other options that have been recommended in the replies.
Nice looking but oh so boring to drive, imo anyway.

If I was going back to Audi it would be for a petrol motor, not a dirty diesel!

Sounds like you've already made up your mind!

Make sure you test one or two (ideally extended spirited country lanes drive!) to ensure you're happy before you part with the money. Then when you go to test your actual car you're just checking it drives as you expected based on recent experience - less pressure to check 1001 things in a foreign car on the critical test.

Best of luck!

Comfort is for old age and even then it's doubtful.

Change your route, change your job or change where you live, but change the Zed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I have an A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI and love it. Its a company car. I do a lot of miles and its a great car to be in and really goes well for a 177ps diesel. While a BMW 3 or 4 series might be more rewarding to drive, they don't look as good as the A5. Even though mine is nothing special (not even an S-Line), I get loads of comments like "nice car mate". I think its 18" wheels.
I've just got the Z3 3.0 this weekend as my play thing. Only driven it yesterday. Really big grin on my face now.
Best of both worlds!

I had a 320td then a 123d for nearly 10 years as I had a job with a car allowance that involved some business mileage (averaged 14K a year, although I expected it to be more).

Then I took early retirement with a cash lump sum, got a part-time job and bought my first Z4C as my annual mileage dropped significantly.

That is when I realised that however quick they may be, no diesel is going to even come close to being nearly as much fun early on a Sunday morning on a quiet back road as anything with an N/A petrol straight 6 and manual gearbox!

So as a result I then bought a 325ti Compact as a daily - lovely!

If you can only have 1 car, don't do more than about 10K a year and want some fun sometimes, I would be looking for an early E9* with the N52 3 litre that my Z4C has - it is a fantastic engine! Or if a bit more grunt is required, maybe a 335i. If you want some comfort go for an SE model, although the seats aren't as good unless someone ticked the box for Sport seats!

But if you want to admire the cabin fittings then buy an Audi - but most of us on here are more interested in the drive - which is why this isn't the TT Forum (if there is such a thing)!
