OK, your thoughts chaps
(I know i'm going to regret this lol)
I have been considering swapping out my bumpers for M Style but I cant quite commit to the look of the front of the M Style cars.
So, I thought maybe a little change to mine by either carbon wrapping or painting the centre of the front lip black to match the top and bottom grilles.
Not done it yet but a rough photo edit to give you an idea, lip is currently red right across.

Hmmm. Somehow you lose the dividing line doing that?
Have you tried it with the vertical bits still red?
I reckon that, with the side grilles black, would look better, but it's all down to preference in the end.

Personally I looked at the ‘do I modernise it and keep up with the yoof segment’ and after much thought walked away from it.

I think the E85s and E89s are maturing nicely so whilst I wouldn’t get into the ‘on a 2012 MY you can do that drone blah drone’ type thing I’d do think that paying homage to the design rather than go down the Merc / Ford STD design threads is best

But as enuff_Zed stated each to their own… :tumbleweed:

(But I’d definitely throw that front grill away..it’s appalling! :fuelfire:  )

Not for me though and yes, lose that grill. Tis a truly horrid thing. IMHO

It's your Z4 though. Make it look how you like it.

I've looked into swapping the bumper skins, even if you get decent second hand parts (most bumpers advertised have damage and the lower grilles missing), so skins (front + back), lower grilles, bumper guides and prep/paint, you're looking at around £1000... is it worth it? I like your grille, an easy changeable modification

I'd be more inclined to do the lower grills in black. In my very humble opinion, painting that centre bottom bit black works on the M Sport bumper because the inside lines of those lower vents flare out towards the bottom which makes the car look lower and wider. With those lines going inwards towards the bottom on yours I feel it would have the opposite effect and make it look narrower and taller.

I'd also suggest only go black if it ties in with other black details (side indicators, wheels etc), otherwise it can look a bit random/confused if you still have chrome in other places.

As always, it's your car so the only opinion that matters is yours.

The vertical bits are black from build, but I see where you are coming from..

Yeah, interesting. I think you are right, a bit like vertical stripes on a jumper make you look slim, horizontal make you look like a chubber...

OK, lets end this thread.
I am going to leave it original, I just wondered how it would look with the black grilles.

A lot of people have mentioned the griles, all the guys at my local indy loved them, so did their sales dept!
Not had a single negative comment at all, they are a bit harder to clean/dry though...

I personally don’t mind the grille, but think you need the fog grilles blacked out. It doesn’t seem so cohesive seeing a splash of silver at the bottom.

For me it doesn't work on the SE, works better on the M Sport but I still wouldn't. As others have mentioned painting the silver bits black will give a better effect.

I know you plan to keep it as it is, but like others I think those lower grilles would look much better in black.

I also like your original idea of the centre section of the bottom lip in black.

I don't have a head-on frontal photo of my car but I think it's enough to get an idea of how it looks - I like it.

Think it looks better with the lower part kept red, Mark.

I do like the Grille though, think it suits the e89.

As said, 8 like the Grilles.... Ignore those who don't, it's your car mate.
Think the Silver bits in Gloss black wouldiik good, but keep the bottom part of the bumper red
