I totally agree !
For some reason I need to see it in real life to get an accurate visual.
I already have a template for the lower grill. There is enough of a lip to use the stock grill as a mounting surface if I decided to apply the mesh on the front surface.
Applying the mesh behind the stock grill would offer additional protection from stones etc, but would pretty much be lost from sight.

The kidneys, I thought the mesh attached to the kidney grill mounting surface would provide similar additional protection without impacting the look of the stock grill.
I have yet to come across anyone who has suffered radiator damage from a stone or varmit that was tossed up and into the front bumper of a Zed.
So maybe the mesh is a bit of overkill ????

Seriously you cannot go wrong with plastidip, it just peels off. It would be impossible to ruin your original grills.

Comparison shots would be cool, I'm thinking of fitting matte black ones to my Sapphire Black E85.

Great timing for this post as my matte black grills were delivered yesterday, not fitted them yet but after seeing them on a midnight blue im pleased I made the right decision

Going further into the "stealth" look, I wonder whether tinted headlights and black grilles would give the car even more "aggression"?

I was thinking the same, I think the black headlights do wonders for the darker cars. Would be scared to rip open the oem lights myself but would certainly be interested in finding a way to do it with the addition of the halo rings too. My only concern would be making sure the units were correctly sealed afterwards.
 
For some reason i thought you was having your whole car matte black or chrome :lol: just realised you was on about your grills!

I like either to be honest but i voted chrome as it highlights you still have grills there. Where as black and black can lose its looks if you know what i mean?

I was really unsure if I should black out my lights but once I'd done it I was really pleased with the results. When your stood by the car the black flows with the lines where as the sliver interrupts the lines.

Think black grills could make the front a little to dark.

Now, in the thread I say that I don't like black kidneys and in general I don't. However, one of my favourite Z is Jamiez' Midnight Blue beauty. I remember seeing the advert for this car when it was listed (before Jamiez owned it, January 2013 I believe) and loving the black grilles:

My car is Carbon Black, not Midnight Blue, but the colours are quite similar:

Black seems to be the overwhelmingly favoured choice. Do you know if your grilles are plastidipped or painted?

Agreed, black is awesome. I keep meaning to buy a set as my painted ones seem to want to chip.
 
No to dipping them as my chrome ones had been cracked by road kill :o but I like do like the black ones, now the wheels need a little refurb should they go black as well?
