Black....welcome to the dark side ....stealth is the way forward, leave the chrome for gypsy caravans.. :thumbsup:
 
seeing those pics, I need to get some black plastidip. so yes its black for me! :driving:
 
Black all the way Steven, I'll be following my current trend and going carbon with black, that jet appearance really suits these cars

Very easy to use, just use some rubbing alcohol and clean up your grills, then thin coats of spray and build up the coating. Will take between 5 and 10 coats to do.
Did my grills around July (and door mirrors) - still gong strong, no chips or peels. Beauty is, if you get fed up with it, just peel it off and go back to stock.

This was always my opinion. But I'm not sure chrome suits the "personality" of the ///M. The rasp of the S54 gives the car a really 'mean' demeanour imo and the wide rear arches, sharp lines etc really give the Z an aggressive look.

The Chrome just doesn't fit with the rest of the package, stops the car looking like a focused performance car imo.

I love the black grilles on Silver Grey (ala api330's) and Imola Red (ala Z4M_CSL http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=60411&start=60 (page 5)) as there is a huge contrast, however on the darker colours I didnt think they went that well due to a lack of contrast.

That said, Jamiez' Midnight Blue example I think looks so much more aggressive and purposeful for having Matte Black grilles.

I also think the Aero Skirts make the ///M look a lot more aggressive and purposeful and will be fitting those as soon as I have the spare funds.

As for donor kidneys, I'm pretty bad when it comes to DIY / Handy man stuff. I'd rather have a pressure-free go at it :oops:

Lucky (?) for me
I have 3 sets of kidney grills that I somehow acquired
And all the trim and grill bits are interchangeable
Plus being retired in the Canadian winter
I have lots of time to ponder.
Plus the change out of a grill can be done in 15 seconds
So no problem cause the grill suits my mood swings !

Love the look of the colour matched and shadow chrome, would love to see them on a finished car.

The problem for me, once you put the ducts and lower grilling back into the bumper (which are black), maybe the colour matched won't suit. Black grilles just seem to follow the scheme more compliantly?
 
To be honest, I am leaning towards gloss black trim on matt black grill.
But it is mostly a personal design decision that because I can change it so easily I don't really stress about it too much.

Here is the colour matched.

And as some here will recall from this project,
I have colour matched the brake cooloj=ng ducts to try and give that area a little more depth.

To add another layer of complication:
I also have a matt black fine gauge expanded metal grill that Im thinking might look good over the lower grill and inside the kidney grills.

Right now I'm thinking that might be too dangerous a mod.
 
I don't think the M Z4'S should have any chrome on them at all, It just don't look right IMO and to put one bit around a mat black grill just seems plain draft, :D
 
Bumpy, very impressed with the lengths you are going to. The fine gauge metal grill for the lower bumper and kidneys could either look amazing or really tacky. Worth a mock up I think :thumbsup:
 
I think yours would suit all black as there is a slightly different contrast between the grills and the rest of the car.

On my black sapphire the all black grills just seemed to get lost.

I'll fit them again tomorrow and take some comparison shots

What about carbon effect grilles for yours? Or as Bumpy has, get the chrome done in shadow chrome, or anthracite to add the final bit of aggression to your car (not that it needs any more aggression) :thumbsup:

That's an option. I did think of wrapping the surrounds or buying the carbon effect ones from mstyle.

Don't go effect! With BMW we have the option of getting the real deal so go for it. IMO real carbon on these cars looks great. My 1er has a lot of carbon toys and my grills look great with real outers
