Hi Guys

To cut a long story short a need your thoughts on what i should do,

I’m normally a very reserved driver and just plod along at 70mph. but yesterday i had some A hole fly up the hard shoulder under taking my Mrs in Lane 1 following me in another car to sit right up my bum in lane 2. i gave him the international sign of your being a twit by waving my hand out the roof as it was down. this made the guy behind me go wild. he pulled into lane 3 and started to swerve his car into mine and i started to panic and pulled into lane 1, he followed me and started it again but I was stuck behind a Lorry so pulled on to the Hard shoulder at 60 mph an undertook the Lorry and pulled off at the very next junction as this was getting really out of hand. my worry is there is CCTV Cameras all the way along the motorway that would have seen this happen. looking back at it i should have never undertaken the lorry but i just panicked in a split second. my girl friend said it look very close to hitting me a few times she backed right off. I never got his reg other than it was an 04 plate car make and model. couldn’t sleep a wink last night with worry.

What do you guys think I should do?

Wait to see if a letter comes in the post for dangerous driving which mean I could be banned as on line it says you can get upto 11 points I already have 3

Personally I would just move on and forget about it. AFAIK the CCTV isn't used to moniter these kind of things. I highly doubt you will hear anything else about the incident but if you do, that's the time to tell the police your side and the CCTV will confirm the truth

To be honest i would log the incident at you local police station. And try and remember any details you can about this mad man.

We have all done the same cheeky wave at people!! :wkr: But you just never know who is on the receiving end. And what there reaction might be.

Am so disappointed in myself for undertaking the lorry i should have just came to a stop. to give you an idea how heated it was my Girl friend was crying when she pulled up next to me and my heart was racing.

Could have finished up allot worse I guess. Some lorry driver out there thinks ill be an A hole but he doesn’t know the story

i do want to go to the police just to tell them what happened but worried they end up giving me into trouble and nothing could have came of it if I said nothing

really dunno but i cant stop thinking about it. so so annoyed

Thanks for your help guys

The overiding thing to learn is that, whatever the provocation, don't rise to it. There are too many complete nutters out there to take the risk.

Flicking the finger, coffee beans etc, might feel good at the time but you could end up waking up in hospital, or worse.

Understand how you feel, not a nice experience at all for you or your Mrs. In my opinion, I would advise you to move on and and try forget about it, be grateful that no injury came to anyone in the process. If you take this to the police (and by some small chance they do pursue it), you could get done for inciting it:
"Being abusive or making rude hand gestures to a fellow road user or pedestrian can be judged inconsiderate, careless or dangerous driving."

I'm not saying the other person is right, he is a complete idiot in my opinion, but just be careful about "opening a can of worms". Try and put it behind you and move on from this, it can only get more stressful (if its pursued), or not go anywhere (as is probably the case).

Glad that you and your Mrs are safe.....

Wise words.

Go and log it, just in case. If anything does come of it, you wont be able to claim your story then, it'l look like an excuse. Wheras if you've got proof in the form of a logged complaint with the police.. you may be alright. They'll also tell you where you stand, and what you should of done (whether it was justified escaping as you did, given your fears for safety). May make you rest at night easier, they'll put it to bed with "not much we can do" most likely, but at least its then settled and you're not worried about a potential incoming letter!

Yep, do what you feel is right. Personally, I'd leave it alone as there's a huge chance it will never be followed up on. If it is, then tell your story then. The police will find the offending driver (the one swerving through lanes chasing you) if they have CCTV anyhow. If you go and report it, there's a risk that you let yourself into trouble that you could have avoided by just moving on from the incident, like prosecution for using the hard shoulder no matter what the justification.

Wouldn't worry too much, IF you receive anything, go and see your insurer, normally there are more ways than 1 to avoid penalties. And anywyay, I doubt it would be legal to use CCTv to fine anyone at all.

But my advice would be: next time someone does something stupid: unloess they hit your car, let them be. As they say (correct me if my expression is incorrect): "Chickens come home to roost".

When someone does something to annoy me, I just ignore it, it's just not worth getting the car damaged, or maybe even worse if the guy is armed. You just never know.

This doesn't sound good, glad you're ok though.

First off I would just move on, I don't imagine anything would come of it, call it a lucky escape if you will.

When I was at Uni I was cut up by a few guys in an Escort. Gave them the finger and sped off. They eventually caught up with me after I had thought I'd lost them and gone into the Halls of residence carpark. They cornered me, threatened to kill me but saw there were too many people around. Anyway, they legged it and said I'd hear from them... next day my car was gone and found burned out a few miles away.

Some wise words on here, no matter what idiot you come across best just to bite your tongue and move on... you can always tell the wife/girlfriend later on what you would have done to the guy had you decided to! ;)

i real big thank you guys, ill be watching the back off my door for the next few days to see if anythings going to come through but i was kind of expecting a police officer to show up by now. on looking back at it now even going on the hard shoulder would still have been a waste of time as his car was a skoda VRS so think i was out of Luck on getting away from the mad man as he was always on my back bumper no matter how hard i tried

but again thank you for all your support. love this website
