Carelessness and stupidity kills, if you ride you have to be alert 100% of the time

Just been reading up on the new BMW S1000 RR, just awesome, so

Life is full of if's enjoy it while you still can

Had a bike a few years ago and enjoyed almost every minute.. bouncing down the road did not even bother me that much, but Yellow Lorries habit of pulling into my path was a bit wearing.
If you want the great feeling of being out there get a roadster.

No way, I have a license courtesy of the DVLA that in their infinite wisdom gave me a license for every type of vehicle that exists when swapping my Dutch license for a UK one, but I would never buy one.

I don't think I know anyone who has / had a bike that is not full of pins ...

Well here's your first one!

34 years of riding motorbikes here! Ridden them since I was 16. Never got a car licence till I was 28 (and only because I needed a van to get my guitar stuff around when I joined a band!). 51 now and still riding motorbikes and I have never not owned or ridden one since I was 16. Had 3 accidents, none serious and only 1 that was my fault and have owned all the top sports bikes + others and used to ride like a GP race on the roads when I was younger with my mates (and not that long ago either!)!

Unfortunately riding motorbikes is something you seem to be attune with or not! I have mates who were always crashing, usually for no other fault other than their own. Follow them on a ride and you could see why! No idea of cornering lines and their observance skills were useless! Something you have to get good at with experience. The trick is surviving long enough to get that experience!! Those that harp on about motorbikes are dangerous and never ride one should never try riding one!

Love my Z4 but even top down motoring doesn't compare with riding a bike! Only time I would sell mine is if I felt I didn't have the time to use it. That nearly happened around 3 years ago, hence the decision to buy a Z4. Thought it may take the place of the bike but it didn't.

This is the bike I own at the moment. A Yamaha MT-01 1700cc Twin. She is a bit of a brute!

If you really wanted one and felt confident to ride one then you wouldn't be asking the question on here!

So I would say No.

Well said! I have been looking at that BMW also, but I think my days of full on sports bikes are over! Too tempting to go too quickly!

People kept tell me this, I waited until I was 21 so I could take the "big" bike test.
I passed a bought a 2008 Harley VROD. Brand new I have been in love with them since 2000 when the old silver ones came out.

It was all mine, I put some nice free flow pipes on it remap and K&N filter, 120 bhp it went like a rocket (traffic light grand prix I would beat most 600cc super sports bikes. Before anyone jumps in I am aware of the weight differences enabling me to put he power down without flipping it) it used to get a lot of attention, I loved it.
Unfortunately, I recently had to get rid of it due to a career change (going it alone).
The first thing I will do when I get a few quid is get another Harley (an air cooled one this time though) if you want a Harley nothing else will quench your thirst and yes there are "better" bikes out there but like your car, it is a love thing too.

Owing to the nature of the beasts they don't promote "stupid riding" they are quick off the mark and cruising machines, you are very open to the elements and aware of your speed - test one and you will know.

We are meant to have a lovely summer this year

Get one, enjoy it. People die in car accidents too.

Like others have said theres nothing like riding a bike but theres the added risk with that extra thrill. Im happy with taking the risk as i want to do something i enjoy but iv also come off mine like others too so i know what it feels like! It guess it all depends on if your happy with the risk.

Should hopefully be doing my 4th trackday at cadwell in a couple of months on my sv650, not the fastest bike but just means you can wring its neck more

Bikes are awesome so its a big YES ............

but ...... don't ever throw your leg over one until you've taken your car driving hat off.
Staying alive on 2 wheels requires a whole different attitude and technique than in a car.

Most important part of a motorcycle - tyres, they are all that connect you to the earth, dont scrimp .......
Most important piece of safety equipment after helmet is a back protector - costs less than 50 quid and is the difference between walking away or not.

Get your head in gear, and bikes are wonderful ........ do it.

I'm 48 now and not been without a bike since I was 17 and can't see myself being without a bike.

Been across most of Europe on various bike trips, 11 TT's, Monza WSBK, Mugello MotoGP, done around 400 laps of the Nurburgring on a bike (there next week), plus many UK/European trackdays and enjoyed every single moment. Biking is great and dare I say brings a type of fun/enjoyment that cars never could.

Go for it, ride defensively and seek additional training.

The potential dangers are obvious and the doom-mongers love to repeat/throw these at you at every opportunity, you'll get used to ignoring it.

If you drive like a co(k you'll probably ride like a co(k and end up hurt, so probably best give it a miss.

You'll know the right decision.

Good luck
