Should I get 2.2 E85?

Hi guys,

Greetings from Serbia.
I'm looking at some Z4s and the only one in Serbia worth looking is this one and it seems that it's in great condition.

It has done 86.557 miles, it's spec is pretty good.
The only thing that bothers me is the performance of 2.2. Can you tell me something about it? I believe it will be fine for me since I currently drive 2.2 diesel RAV4 :D One more thing, I plan to use it daily except for the winter days.

There are no 3.0 E85s on ads and the only 2.5i is facelift which I've seen and driven but wasn't happy with how the owner has treated it over the years so I passed.

What do you think of this one? I'm seeing it tomorrow. If it turns out fine, should I get it despite the fact it is 2.2?

The pre facelift e85’s all used the same basic engine (m54) just in different capacities, the 2.2 should be no less reliable than the 2.5 or 3.0.
It’s just weather you can live with the lower power output really :?

Yes, the power output is my only concern. On the other side, I believe it will be enough for some twisty roads, occasional trip and city driving. :?

EDIT: How about RPM at 85mph? Is the engine noisy at those speeds?
 
I have a 2.2 auto, mainly because i wanted an auto box and the 2.2 was the only one I could find! I think the temptation of having more power would get me into trouble so I'm happy with the 2.2. Around town its giving me 30mpg and on a run from chesterfield to London and back it was doing over 40mpg (according to the computer).

This was the reason for buying mine (manual) although it’s said there’s not much difference in mpg with a 2.5. I’m happy with it considering it’s use and it’s not got me into any trouble (yet). Can’t really hear the engine at 85mph due to the wind noise but it feels accomplished and continues to pull on command.
 
I had a 2.2 for 3 years and while it was a great car it was woefully underpowered. I personally wouldn't recommend going near one. My wife's 2.0 Kia was a faster car
 
It really does depend on individual preferences. I had a 2.2 E85 and was quite happy with the engine. Although of a lower capacity than the 2.5 and 3.0 litre cars it still has a straight six. If you want a car that drives and handles well it is worth consideration. But if you are looking for real sports car performance you might find it to be on the leisurely side. If you do decide to go and look at it make sure you take it for a decent drive. My care suffered from the ‘sticky’ steering problem that can affect pre-facelift cars. It didn’t manifest itself until the car was driven for an hour or so or more quickly if outside temperatures were high. Good luck with your search. :thumbsup:

I decided to go with this 2.2 since it's in great condition for 16 year old car, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. :D
Will start a new thread soon with some pictures (have to do interior detailing).

PS it has cup holders lol

Have you ever had a chance to drive 2 faster models and compare it to ours?
 
Hi, I have a 2.2 E85 that I have recently had remapped and carbon cleaned in the UK. The power and torque uplift makes it about the same as the 2.5. The cost in the UK was £169, well worth it just for the throttle response alone.
