Should I buy a Tracker for my E86

So I was just wondering now that I have been and gone and bought an E86 should I buy some sort of tracker for it. Has anyone here had a Z4 stolen. You know how it is after you have bought a car, constantly checking to see if it is still where you left it in the car park, well I do anyway, silly I know but it does wear off after a while. I would be interested to know if these do get stolen, should I be worried or just being paranoid. Cheers.

I did have a dealer fitted "tracker" up to last year but when i went to renew it they said it was too old and needed replacing at a cost of £350 so i decided to buy my own and fit it .its got a sim card in it so you can track the vehicle on a website and it records speed etc cost me £100 got it from rewire security .

It's probably more about peace of mind than a real need:

My thoughts:
I've only heard of a couple of Z4's being stolen. Not the typical car of choice.
I've had tracker as an oem fit before, but that was on a high value new car and ongoing costs became too much
Zed only worth a few £k so unless an ///M or alpine, then not worth it.

i seconded CJ, if its a few hundred pounds for peace of mind you can do it.

But the Z isnt really targeting for theft.. more likely to be vandalised, and unless you have some premium exotica or highly modded car (which are targeting to be stripped for engine parts) i wouldnt bother wasting your money

without the keys they would be hard to steal and if somebody breeaks into your house your probably better off giving them the keys

edit: which doesn;t answer the question so why did i post it :headbang:

Three arguments against trackers:
1) Unless you go for a top-of-the-range current VHF system, the signal from them can easily be blocked by a small gadget that the thieving scrotes plug in to your cigarette lighter socket. Or they will tear apart the car's interior looking for it.
2) If your car was stolen, would you really want it back again?
3) A tracker might get your car back after it has been stolen, but it will do nothing whatsoever to prevent it from being stolen in the first instance.

One argument in favour of trackers:
1) You might get cheaper insurance.

Bottom line: buy a Disklok (or, if you're feeling flush, something like a Viper paging alarm).
