Short shift.

Hi

As the topic suggest, anyone fitted a short shift linkage? Even better with an extension to raise the knob up a couple of inches......

I'm not a fan of the teeny little ZHP knob at all., looks a little 'max power' to me (but that is just my view of course, if you like it that's your prerogative and all that).

Cheers muchly.

That guy says the Z4M is best car he has owned and then proceeds to remove most of it and replace it with various aftermarket bits and pieces. :D

Modding, it's a drug most of us are addicted to in some way or another!

I wouldn't think the Z4M needs an even shorter shift throw that a short-linkage kit would provide - unless you're trying to move it by telekenesis :P

my TT has a short shift kit on it... and when i first got the car i thought ooowwww nice shift, after a few months of use i can now say the shift is much more postive BUT...... you actually have to shift slower as it seems the shorter action is changing faster than the cogs can keep up, also shortshift kits give an artificial feeling of stiffness, i would however love to put one on the z4m as i feel the throw is very long......

oohhhh i wouldnt mind this

the only prob is you basically have to strpi half the bottem of the car to do the install!!

Jesus! Just spend 15mins reading that! Don't like the wheels or the black grill from a cosmetic point of view but the rest of the mods are supreme!

I've got the UUC Evo3 on my car and i like it. It does make a slight but noticeable difference, more precise shifting, slightly shorter throw. That with with my Rogue Engineering clutch stop makes my M's shifting faster and better feeling.

edit: forgot to add that i've had it for almost a year now and at stock height.

AC Schnitzer do a great one for the Z3/Z4M/E46 M3 Coupe. Not cheap at EUR450. The one that I have in the Z3MC makes the Z4MC stock shift positively sloppy. Best change the gearbox altogether for a Drenth sequential - then you can have a broomstick height lever since you are only moving it an inch...

Well I wouldn't need the short shift if I wasn't physically moving the knob myself would I?! :D

Shorter linkage + raised knob = same throw as current. (Similar to what the guy in the zpost link has done, like he said.... you can adjust the height of the knob anywhere from an inch above stock or just above the console)

Looks like that would be the way forward though, maybe with a nice little extension bar to allow full adjustment from stock height to something nice and close to the steering wheel. :driving:
