I'm sure I remember reading words to that effect on the Audi site a while back (you used to be able to specify a short shifter as an option on the TT).

PawnSacrifice, yes i had the Evo3 kit from UUC installed a couple of months ago. To be perfectly honest while some difference is indeed noticeable it wasnt that "wow" experience i kept reading online. The throw is shorter and you can shift pretty damn quick when really gunning it but the action is still notchy, especially when cold. Perhaps the garage didnt install it properly so i'll be taking it to another place to have it checked soon.

I guess the notchy feeling is going to come from the gearbox itself. Also, reference the cold thing... I guess that's unavoidable, you're essentially changing the pivot point for the gear shifter and taking away leverage which would have made this less noticeable on a standard setup. Well, that's my theory.

It's just good old leverage.

Longer lever = reduced effort and more ability to 'feel' the shift mechanism.
Shorter lever = increased effort and thus less ability to 'feel' the shift mechanism.

Shorter, but you do more work, and so kinda lose the delicate touch.

All the ones I've used felt crap in my view. I don't get why people think they are good. More often than not when you NEED to shift that fast that it will make that tiny difference, you bugger it up because it's not got enough feel to it.

You get the same effect just making the gear knob shorter. Try shifting holding the bottom of the gear lever

They quote 3 hours to fit though! That was the first I saw so possibly not the cheapest. Out of interest I have mailed the chap I believe had one on his E46 to see what he thought.

Just curious, is this something you'd have fitted yourself?

i wouldnt do it myself as you have to remove the exhaust and having seen whats involved when the remus was fitted im not interested, you need a ramp to start with.

Very satisfying indeed! Can sometimes be a pain when cruising on the motorway but i really do love the RPi in the twisties.

Mr Whippy, you really can tell the difference. It's not THAT much, at least not as much as other reviewers would have you believe but i can tell a difference. It's also not harder to shift than the stock one plus the shifter height can be left as the original one if you want (which i have).
