Short Shift Knob Install

Got the standard old style knob on the Z4Mcoupe. Looking to go to short shift so I might pick the brains of the parts guy at the local dealer to see if this is a new part.

Cheers for this!

Question, i just want to change the gaitor, not the knob, do i need to remove the knob, or do i just need to cut off the gaitor and fit the new one? (IIRC on another car i had you just needed to pull it over the knob and then use the zip tie on the inside to tighen it.

Any help appreciated.

just pull the knob off and remove the gaitor and put the new one and knob back on, less than 5 minutes job ;)

Navid! Put the keys to the Audi down and step away from the vehicle. :guns:

Gordon, haven't driven it since Saturday :play:

Just pull! Looks pretty stuck on? Worried about the cable below breaking. Assume i disconnect that temporarily?

Yes unclip the gaitor from the base from either left or right hand side first then disconnect the wire before pulling.

Very easy mod.

Just remember when it doesn't come with the first tug/pull... Don't put you face so close as if you're using the force of your mind and hands or you'll end up like me with a bruised ego and nose!

Thoroughly recommend though shifting is more of a pleasure and faster too.

What knob are you fitting Ali? Hi BTW (it's Rob)

Hi Rob! Welcome along!

I'm not chaning the knob...I don't like the short one, looks naff!

The morons that replaced my windscreen dropped some glue on the gaitor and i can't get it off! So it's a replacement job...Not expensive!

Good guide... Just fitted my new ZHP knob in about 3 minutes and didn't even need to use pliers to get the wiring connectors apart, must have strong fingers 8)

Lovely looking knob :)

Rick, thanks for the post, it's the little things like this along with the major mods that help so much with working on our cars.

How do you get a new shifter back on? I have tried everything from a lubricant to hitting it with a mallet with no luck... any tricks?

Fitted mine today. But it's slightly off centre and irritating me every time I look at it!

Any idea how it can be set straight? Tried twisting it a little but nothing
