Short memories

I will start this post with a disclaimer. There will be people who disagree with my point of view. Fine. But I'm not changing it!

My lad is, as I type this, manning the QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) Typhoons in the Falkland Islands (As an engines/airframes techy)
Today I messaged him to find out what was going on with the Queen's memorial etc. Fully expected him to say they were all marching around Stanley or something.
Oh no, he says, the Governor didn't want a military presence in Stanley today as it didn't seem right!

Now, having just seen 6000 service personnel escort the Queen to her rest, with another 4000 providing behind the scenes support, then thinking back to all those lads who never came back in 1982, plus those that did, then took their own lives due to PTSD, I am, shall be say, a little saddened, at this decision.

What message does this send to all the veterans (and their families) who went over there to release the islanders from the cellars they'd been locked in?

I f**kin' hate politics!

A very good friend summed it up when he said, well next time the Argies come over, we should all just say we're washing our hair!

I can sort of understand it, particularly if the reasoning was not to provoke a reaction towards any Brits living/working in Argentina.
You of course remember the kerfuffle that those TopGear bozos caused when they did that Patagonia trip. Tension and resentment still obviously runs raw with many over there.
To not have any military representation or commemoration at all is however, quite strange as I think most British Commonwealth territories had commemorations and relayed the funeral.

By the way, ask your lad how the damping systems for the avionics control systems are holding up in the Typhoons. I was on the design team at Faber who came up with the stupid idea of using Sorbothane mounts which degraded much quicker than projected. They should have all been replaced by now however...hopefully.
Happy memories of site visits to Warton to see devlopment rollouts 20+ years ago.
Time flies. *kof*

All i can add very humbly is,he,s following orders he may not agree with and times change not always for the good i do agree with your view and thanks for both you and your sons service.
Politics,a way of blaming someone else on their decision to a problem they themselves dont have the answer to.
