Short fling, but boy was it good

While I hadn't been planning to (ever) sell my E85 3.0si, I now find myself without a Z4 after selling it to another forum member. It was a really hard decision to make, and as naff as it sounds the fact that the buyer seemed like a nice person and had great plans for adventure in it I got the comfort of knowing that it was going to a good home and would be enjoyed.

When I bought the car last year I was re-living a past love of my old E85 that I owned in 2007 to 2010, and enjoyed turning it into the car that I wanted it to be, namely standard, but the best version of standard I could get it to. This included various repairs (headlight, engine splash guards etc.) along with some upgrades with OEM kit: M-sport seats and M-sport MF steering wheel.

I still have a void that needs to be filled with something convertible and fast/fun, so I have been searching for a 4-seat convertible and after narrowing it down to a Porsche 911 [996] Carrera 2 3.6 cabriolet or Mercedes CLK 55 AMG, I have taken the plunge and put a deposit down on the former.
It's the more expensive option but will provide me the opportunity to bring the family out on fun drives and enjoy a pretty special car (that will hopefully hold its value reasonably). While the next chapter is exciting and new, I can't help but feel like I've let a little gem of a Z4 go, and I will always miss it (my 6yr old daughter was devastated when I told her I sold the car, whereas my 9 yr old jsut said "you never needed 3 cars anyway.")

I am such a fan of this forum that I will continue to visit and contribute where I can, I have learned so much from the crowd on here and getting hand on with fixes, its such a helpful and friendly group of people and forum so hats off to you all. Watch out for me as a forum lurker now....

That's sad news, but hopefully the new owner will enjoy it just as much - he's certainly bought a good one!

While you might miss your Z4 sometimes having your 911 should make up for it.

Sad you are moving on David, but happy for you and the new Porsche.

Is the Z4 staying local, do you know?

It’s new home is in Hampshire and with a forum member so I am sure you will see it about.

I am hoping so, but some cars just get under your skin (in a good way) and that Z4 was one of them. The only other car I’ve owned that managed it was a Renault Clio Williams II.

Enjoy your new fun mobile. :driving:  Not quite so sure your 9 year old will enjoy being in the back though.

My 9 year old has never enjoyed any car, though she’s quite fond of the BMW F11 535d as it has “good stories in it.”

I am a bit worried about whether the kids will fit in the back with me in front (I’m 6ft 2in). Im pretty sure they’ll be fine behind my wife (5ft 3in), then it will mean they have to fight over which side to sit on.

The seats actually look reasonable, it may be that I can only take them in the car when the roof is down.938130D7-7679-4D29-9C11-595293466557.jpeg

I’ve collected the new wheels and pleased to report the whole family fit in it very comfortably, definitely more so than if I’d tried to squeeze them all into the Z4!

I’m quickly learning that every car has its terrifying issues, and you have to try not to fixate on the 2% and enjoy the car you have.
