Shocking MPG...

I drove from Preston to Glasgow last week but was in a bit of a hurry and got 22 MPG. :o .... This week i am back in Glasgow but had a little more time so re-set the computer and got 30.2 mpg had Cruise set to 80 Tuts most of the way....Not bad at all.

Cheers

Siftah is yours an Auto? That really is shocking, id have a look round to see if your Lambdas etc are ok!

I think the absolute minimum from a tank was 27 after a Peak District/Wales Thrash!! I regularly see 350 miles between fills using Vpower/Tesco99 using a good mix of driving. I think my record tank was 400 miles which averaged about 37mpg :)

I find my OBC is around 5-7% optimistic :)

Cruise is primarily about comfort (rest your right foot) and staying at a constant (read- legal) speed on long runs IMO. Mine doesn't have it and I do miss it when driving for 3-4 hours or more....but never thought about it as a way to increase MPG....

However, I am slightly concerned about an MPG knob comparison thread.... Have I stumbled on the Astra 1.7 CDTI Caravan Association Club Forum? It's a sports car, bloody enjoy it...

;)

You guys can almost match my Dads VW Passat 1.9TDI PD...

Check the figures for you self i am highly sceptical about 47mpg at 75mph for a period longer than 1min down a hill on a motorway lol

Honestlty tho I never use my car on the motorway ... I've owned it for about 6 months now over 1500miles and averaged 23.9MPG .... Which i think is very good for a N/A 3.0 around town. Most is ligth driving ...

Naa, it's definitely about right - I see 35mpg-ish on the OBC after a weekend cruise around Yorkshire/Peak District etc. Which would include a bit of motorway, some country roads and some heavy right footing :)

The problem with the short journeys to work is ~50% of the time the engine is on I'm doing <20mph or sat at traffic lights and that really kills the MPG. On the flip side, I fill the tank up once a month or less, so my wallet survives :)

but look at that average speed???? if you had been driving even remotely briskly on a long run like that it should be way up in the hgh 40s/low 50s. you've been stroking it :poke:

I like the autoroute best, especially the bit where it says "after 166 miles, keep left..."....then we get a nice litle three digit average speed

I do a 4 ile trip to work and average about 26-28 mpg, and my car is only a 2.0!!! thats not good is it? :(
On the motorway the other day managed to get 43 ish mpg :D

It depends on the type of driving - if it's town driving then most of your time is spent at traffic lights or in traffic. Any time the engine is running but the car isn't moving your MPG is plummeting, that's why I never stop for traffic lights!
