Shock Tower Cover

Does anyone know if the cover for the e46 M3 fits the Z4/Z4M?

i.e. will the e46 M3 one (p/n 31312229458 - about £6) fit my Z4MC?


Or alternatively, will the e36 M3 / Z3M one (p/n 31312227387 - about £12) fit?

If nobody knows, then I'm happy to be the guinea pig and try for all our benefit

Well, I ordered them both and tried them. The one that fits perfectly is the e46 one (which isn't surprising).

Part number 31312229458 - £13 for the pair.

Does make it a lot neater looking if you're interested in under the bonnet look

Great find. . Does anyone make these type of covers that will fit if you have the OEM strut bar fitted?

It's the nut & thread that the cap clips on to, so if you've got the same nuts on the strut brace then the only thing left to do would be to remove a couple of inches of plastic around the side of the cap to allow the strut brace to fit through - might look a bit messy though.

PS - just noticed that my engine bay needs a good clean

Cheers, Might be worth a crack, I think I've seen a type fitted with the strut brace, they looked like Rubber disks with the M logo printed on, I'm sure it was on this forum, possibly one of our US members?

The other one I was considering was p/n 31311139453 (about £1 each), which is the basic dust cap for lost of models including the e85 (but strangely, not the ///M), but it simply covers the hole and not the nuts/thread.

Which is what I think the Z4 should have as standard (there was nothing on mine at all and nothing listed in the BMW parts catalogue for the ///M).

It was a post on here a few weeks ago about a black 'cap' that covers the hole, but I think it was in the US and thus probably too expensive to bother with for a small piece of plastic, and then they simply stuck on some ///M wheel stickers. It was in one of Starscream's posts/pictures that I saw these...

Saw another type on an e46 M3 today. Doesn't look like it will work without the extra strut brace, but at least there's another option.
Just got to source the number now.

7 895 251 fir the LH unit and 7 895 252 for the RH one. But I recall they came as part of the strut brace kit for my M3, but with their own part number they might be available.

But, they don't fit the Z4!

The standard e46 M3 cover I've just put on my Z4MC fits fine. Do these not fit due to a difference in the strut brace design?
