Ship Car to Australia

Hi,

Has anyone here shipped a car to Oz?

I'm looking into this right now since i'm likely to be there for 6-12 months.

If I ship, I understand that i'll have to pay import tax on the price of the car new it was new  . - can anyone confirm this pls?

Also, does anyone know the rules regarding re-selling the car in Oz later? - must I wait a period before I can sell?

Thanks for any advice. BMWs seem mega-priced out there, so it just might be worth shipping it. Otherwise, it'll be up for sale soon...

Thanks.

A friend's father sent his XK150 to New Zealand for a nut and bolt rebuild (still 40% cheaper than getting it done in the UK). I'll find out who he used for shipping.

That said, if it was me... if it was going to be closer to 6 months I'd mothball the Z4, over a year, possibly sell. Then I'd go to Australia and get myself a Holden V8 to thunder around in

When my uncle went out there he decided it was cheaper to just buy a car out there, he bought a Lexus 430 with a big V8 then he brought it back to the UK with him as it was also cheaper then selling it and getting another car.

Apparently the XK was taken to Holland first which made it much cheaper - about £600. It did take weeks in transport, if you are there for 6 months you may only get the car for 4.5!

Thanks folks.

It looks like initially 6 months, then maybe 12, then possibly permanent. However, I have to work on it being 6 months.

Looks like there will be a really highly specced coupe for sale here in the next couple of months...

Thanks.

If it takes its own container, as a comparison, it costs £1500-2000 to transport a Land Rover....but there is a major isue in that your car has to be scrupulously clean inside, outside and underneath....the slightest dust mark (anywhere) and they charge you £600 for a steam clean allegedly.....

And the Oz regulations......
