Well here’s the goodbye post.
I sold my M roadster recently and although it was the right thing to do it was painful.
To start at the beginning I first owned a Sterling grey 3.0, and I loved it. Having previously owned an s2000 this was just a touch more grown up and the beefy torque suited brisk day to day driving. I tinkered away modding it and couldn’t think of a better car for the money.
Here was she...
But, once the girlfriend moved in with me and brought with her an 02 VW Polo I thought what the hell I’m buying an M. The plan was simple; find a low miles great condition high spec model and keep it for a year, use it as a second car. Something basically that would be easy to move on afterwards.
It’s a hard slog finding M’s in good nick :| . I saw some pretty average condition cars, some as low miles as 12k and looking very sorry for themselves (how do owners do that in 12 thousand miles
????)
At the start of the search I had seen an Interlagos Blue one and it had never been a preferred choice as it looks naff in pictures. I still think that now. But in the flesh it looks amazing. You would never think as a man ‘ooo I’de like a blue with a bit of purple please’ but as soon as you see it you’re in love. 8)
I eventually found a good one and coupled with some CSL alloys I had as close to my dream car as I can afford (a Ferrari 355 in blue with cream leather one day please!!)
In my time with it I drove her down to Barcelona and again to the South of France, if you don’t drive to the beach with a roadster then you’re missing the point!
The M is a real event of a car, as spoken about in many posts on this forum. I had the pleasure of replacing the rear tyres after having a lot of dsc of oppo-lock-fun!
You have to get out of England in these cars if your not going to get on track, they need wide road spaces to play!
Nothing ever went wrong with her apart from a wheel slightly buckling, which was an easy fix and a sidelight bulb blowing.
So, now we’re in one of the hottest spells ever to hit England and I have waved goodbye to it. The new owner is a great fella that owns a B&B near Le Mans. He’d paid for the car before even seeing it. I did send him some high res images and he had an RAC inspection done though. Mad? Well he loved it as soon as he saw it and I don’t blame him. At least I know it will be having a great time away from the UK roads.
So what next? Well nothing unfortuneatly. This has been the worst part of selling the car as previously there has always been another one to look forward to buying. But, through struggle and long hours I’m buying a house at the mo. This, if anyone knows N2 London property prices is no easy task! The house has no driveway and I’m not about to have a nice car sitting on the street. So, an old Polo and trips to B&Q is all that’s on the horizon for the next year or two. I will literally weep every time I see a Z4M on the road but needs must.
I’ve had a great time on this forum, reading about everyones cars and more. I won a monthly photocomp and had pictures in both the calenders. Very pleased with that
I leave you with a load of pics of her final run out with my mate in his Z3M and a video of dubious quality edited on my ipad (sorry my mac is in storage at the mo)
