I had a m240i for a day last week just because I could, and great a car as that is, it's too bumpy even in comfort and I couldn't wait to get back in the Handschalter. It's so much more than just an optional manual gearbox.

And then there's Porsche, who have perfected this con to such a fine art that you'd spend twice as much on a GT3 and never track it

There’s a guy in our little Porsche Cayman/Boxster group with a Cayman GT4… always at the back, always pootling along. Pointless, never going near a track in it and says it’s too powerful so needs to drive slow to keep it on the road :?

In fact there’s a few in our Porsche group who seem to just want to go to organised static car meets; Never want to join the few of us that get out early to drive when the roads are quiet, …for the enjoyment of driving. A lot of these cars are weekend cars too - so what’s the point of putting that much wedge into a sports car, just to park it up and hope others look at it

I don’t do many miles in my Alpina, but the miles I do are generally what it was built for. Driving the Porsche a bit more but, again, in a way that makes the most of it.

Logical....car can't change down to adapt to slowing traffic..car could be left in gear with a manual..

Except our old Golf 1.5 TSi GT with a 6MT had fully adaptive cruise fitted as standard. I do sometimes miss it too.

Understood ..so say you've engaed adaptive cruise at 90 mph..traffic you are in slows to 20mph..does it a) kick out b) lug away?
