Shell V Power petrol

Just bought an old 2005 2.0 litre E85 in great condition. Got some different views on the improved performance/general condition improvements of using the high octane Shell V power petrol.....any advice lads? (Sorry.... or of course lassie's..... or indeed any non-specific gender, petrol heads).
 
On your car I'd save your money..its quite a price penalty for 99 Ron Shell over the 95 Ron.

The extra snake oil additives in 99 Shell are principally aimed at the direct injection engines like the N20 and N54, the earlier engines already get their inlets washed by the incoming fuel.

There will be zero performance gain (unless you had a re-map that exploited the extra octane)

But if it makes you feel that your giving the car some love, then heh, its a free world, do what you want to do :thumbsup:
 
Have a search it's been done to death. Basically, it's fine petrol, but then so are many other brands. I put it in my ///MR quite a lot, but only because we have a Shell station nearby. Me and the car are both just as happy using what ever E5 stuff comes out of Tesco's pumps.

Does the 2.0 need E5?

I used to use both, but realised 1,000,000 nectar points are worth feckall and V-power is feckin expensive, so now use the cheapest unleaded (Morrisons, Sainbury's or Apple Green). Although it does cost 3 gallons of petrol driving between the three to compare. HTH

Hmm, I must admit, as a "newbie", I wasn't sure what to expect, in terms of informed, in depth, technical advise from established members, allowing me to gain precious information to help to improve my driving experience......I shouldn't have worried, thanks guys.
Avoid Nectar Points then.

There is a certain level of flippancy that turns up in some posts, usually around page 2, so they got to you early.
I admit I'm a perpetrator too. Hope it doesn't put you off? When you really need help then there will be loads of it available to you.
Regarding the fuel, your car will be happy on standard unleaded. Any effect, real or placebo, will be minimal at best and after this subject has been battered about for years I think the general consensus is that the extra you pay for the fancy stuff is out of all proportion to what it achieves.
On the fancy turbo versions you may see a difference if you had the car specifically mapped with a tank full of a certain type of fuel. Peter (B21) may be able to advise better on that.
For all things 4-pot, may I suggest you search for posts from 'Tug' as he has run one for a long time and is something of an authority on them.
They do have their own particular suite of common issues, most of which can be minimised by proper maintenance.
I'd suggest that every time you fill up with fuel, work out the saving from the V-Power and stick the difference in a 'maintenance fund'. It will do more good there.

This.

Zero tangible benefit to your car by using 99RON and as enuff said, the extra cost would be far better put aside for the maintenance :thumbsup:
 
I have read on one of the car forums that E5 gives more mpg than E10,so helping to negate the price difference.The op in question had done checks on full tank runs with both E5 and E10.I use E5 vpower when ever possible.

These guys did a very detailed report exploring many of the parameters..

The bottom line seems to suggest that E10 relative to 95 RON petrol should be around 4.2% worse fuel consumption and E5 would be 2.1% :thumbsup:

Say you previously diid 30 mpg on 95 RON then you end at 28.75 miles to the gallon..

Of course most 95 RON fuel was already 5% ethanol so the change is around 2% worse..so at 30 mpg on E5 you are now one E10 you are about 0.6 mpg worse off...

1,400 Honey points gets you a £10 gift voucher, so 1,000,000 would get you over £7,100. If you don't want them, I'll have them. :D

But the short answer is that V-Power is the best fuel on the market.
