Shell Optimax 99 octane

Never use anything but. However - and perhaps slightly off topic - has anyone tried the diesel versions of V Power / Ultimate etc in their diesel cars?

ive always used optimax, however i tried a tank of BP Ultimate recently and that seemed to make more of a difference than shell optimax did. never rated tesco fuel, tried it many times but doesnt seem to make any difference.

This is the exact opposite of my experience. BP Ultimate is waste of time for me but both Vpower and Tesco99 give a noticeable improvement.

BP Utimate is only 97, not 99. This is why Shell V-Power and Tesco99 should show improvement.

I looked up Shell Vpower as sold in Canada and it's 91 octane. The Husky Oil blend I use is 94 Octane and is 7-8% ethanol, Petrocanada has a 94 octane Super premium listed but I've not found it yet. With the 4-5 point difference in the measurement method they should be close to the UK gas.
I'd still like to see how the Vpower/optimax fuel in the UK compares to our fuels in real life, I have a feeling that it is of a higher quality than our homegrown stuff..

Only use shell V-Power or the new stuff, only way to go especially with sports mode on with the increased throttle response...

Friend drove back from Germany and said there was a Shell "Racing" 100 OCTANE! Apparently an extra 20p a litre so definitely not worth it...but still...100 octane! :fuelfire:

Is Shell Optimax 99ron now everywhere? I know for a while it was only some garages selling it, the rest still stocked the 98RON stuff.

I do recommend it. I ran my previous 3.0Si on it (98/98 RON Shell)for some 30,000 miles. Towards the upper end of that milage I was forced to use normal unleaded and the car hessitated on it, had a flat spot near 3000rpm if I remember correctly. As many know the 3.0 does making a pinking sound, it's even worse when changing from super to normal fuel.

There seems to be 2 threads on higher octane fuel so I'll post in this one too.

I found using the higher octane fuel that the car was a lot quieter at tick over, I was going to complain to BMW about it but the fuel seems to have sorted it really.
