Shall I let the hood dry before applying Autoglym Protector?

Hi All,

I've read the various topics on here for/against the Autoglym protection kit. On balance I decided to go for it.

I've applied the cleaner already (looks great BTW).

Contrary to the Autoglym instructions and given the Z4 hood is permiable, I wondered if I should let it dry fully before applying the protector? I want to avoid trapping any moisture between the outer fabric and inner, waterproof skin?

Personally I would let it dry first, for the reason you mentioned.

For the autoglym product i actually apply it when it is wet (as it says it can on the instructions)

but for ragtopp or the bmw stuff i let it dry first....

This is the reason why i use the autogly stuff in winter when its cooler and takes longer for the roof to dry.

Thanks aquazi, how many times have you applied the protector to a wet roof and have you been doing it for some time?

When I had my e85, I applied it when wet. The reason for this is that the chemical used, binds to the fibres better when wet. Its best to do this in summer so the whole thing can dry overnight. There is little danger of water being trapped as the chemical repels water in favour of the fibre, therefore pushes water to the outside of the fabric to dry naturally. I did this every six to twelve months and the hood not only repelled water very well, it remained solid black, no grey rubs or mould!

I apply when slightly damp, have done twice now..

infact i took my hardtop off yesterday and so will be doing this in the sunshine today

Ive always applied it dry you can clearly see where its been applied then.

Done it on my old lotus and the boxster no problems.

BTW its better if you apply it in doors, dont forget to mask up the windows might seem OTT but it says time removing the overspray.

Thanks aquazi, how many times have you applied the protector to a wet roof and have you been doing it for some time?

I have done this twice now.... both times in nov/ dec.. in the cooler months... never had any problems.

But i never mask up paint/ windows... just carefull spraying.... and using a block of card as i spray to shield the bodywork... any overspray comes off very quickly with autoglym srp.
