Shaking steering wheel 60-85mph

Well that was an unexpected solution :o

Tell me about it, got the idea of an e60 5 series forum I’ve checked it after doing 150 miles and it looks exactly the same as it did before.

Just for anyone reading this in the future the centre bore of z4s may be stated as 72.6 however when looking around it appears this is a rounded up figure from 72.56 as far as I could tell.

I’ve never had an issue with no spigot rings on other cars before, the z4 is either extremely sensitive or I was doing something wrong.

I think the issue maybe the inside matting face of the new wheel? If its brand new it will have paint on? And perhaps this is causing a slight uneven surface?

The same thing can happen when mounting new brake discs, if the hub isn't cleaned properly... it will not sit flush and so cause uneven wear (disc and pad) as well as vibration. Also called brake disc run-out (or rotor depending on where in the world you are). Well those were my thoughts anyway!

Could it be that the new wheels are for a slightly different size of hub. I had a sililar problem with the Z4 I bought which had wheels from a 5 series. After numerous checks my garage mechanic realized the problem which was instantly fixed with spigot rings costing £10.
Good luck,
Hamish
