I get this sound intermittently while accelerating past 2000 rpm in a 2003 3.0l.. It can also occur on a motorway when I tip in the throttle. Service techs haven't been able to hear it because it really does come and go without any pattern. They did get a code that told them that the throttle body was failing, but the same code said that the ambient temperature was 180 F. Any body have any similar experience?

possilbly be the vanos failing ????? watch some clips on utube it will give you some idea what sort of noise a failing vanos would sound like hope this helps

Hi There,

Mine does something the same but is more prevelant around 3000 rpm. Traced the fault too the DISA valve i.e. flap rattling
about on central pin. Plenty of info on this forum and youtube, easy fix but part is backorder BMW UK at £122 plus VAT 3-4
week delivery time expected. If this is your problem and you manage to source the part quicker or cheaper I would appreciate
the nod. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Rick

Could of course just be pre ignition........

Which then results in the question - do you fill up with V-Power, Ultimate etc or normal 95 octane?

my disa made my car sound like a wreck even though there was not any apparent noise coming from the device itself, I overlooked the maitenence and it finally crippled my car on the highway - the price for towing it back to the dealer was 2x the price of the DISA. I suggest you replace it it really does the trick. :)
