Servicing

Can see where you're coming from - a lot less money and service record stamped but personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with all this particularly when the time comes when it's sold or part exed - if privately sold it would be dishonest to imply it was done at a BMW garage and likewise if part exed - if it then comes out that this was fiddled ( a simple check would show this ) then you could find yourself in more trouble for passing on a service record that is not accurate.

I reckon this mechanic won't be working for BMW much longer - they will find out for sure in time .

The question has to be asked how would you react if you'd bought a car with what is in reality a fake service history?

I'm sure the fella will probably do a good job but it's not a genuine BMW job - don't they have to be plugged in to a computer ? How is going to do that ?

You have saved a lump of cash now but it might bite your bum later.

DARREN WOOD has just done my service £450 and stamp and brake flowed too
Great job

Mine had Ins1at DW (with valve clearances) for £340 so extra £110 for Ins2 which should include gearbox & diff oil is a great price
Have you got the necessary jobs itemised on receipt ?

From my experience, the older a car gets the less important service history becomes unless it is very low mileage. I tend to look more at condition of car, what repairs have been carried out and how current owner has looked after it. Also check for engine noise, smoke from exhaust, look of oil and most importantly check inside oil filler cap for signs of mayo.

+1 and even then if you have receipts for genuine parts and a stamp in a year or two's time it will be irrelevant. As an M Coupe its already a 8 - 10 year old car so its not a huge factor. More important that it has had its service on time & all items done as should have been.

Job well done but it wasn't £450 :? i make that closer to £540 plus brake fluid at £42 which is still a fair price & you know your car will have been done right

Aren't the service details logged electronically these days?
So there's no hiding place when or if the service history needs to be interrogated.

Yup just been to Dick Lovett Swindon because my car is showing inspection2 when I was expecting an oil service (I've had the car for less than a year and was going by the logbook). The guy pulled up the full service record and admitted that the service tell tale had been reset incorrectly and that the last service was inspection2 as per the log book.
