Hi everyone .
I've recently took my car to my local bmw garage for a oil change service, They've said it due for insection 2, my mate who has a z3m coupe and he knows the guy who did the oil service, he says he will do the work out of work hours and I will get a recipt for bmw parts, and the stamp, but not for labour? Does anyone think this will be a bad mark in the history?

Ins2 is one of the main factors buyers look for when searching for a M imo
They want to know where & when it was carried out to form opinion on the standard it may or may not have been done to
Id say your idea was not great from a resale / value point but no reason why the job won't be done well if you trust the guy
How much as the lad quoted ? Compare it with Darren Wood in Stockport before you make the decision

I would say it depends if your planning to keep the car long term .most people excluding ones on here won't care what's been done as long as it's stamped .if you trust the guy to do the proper insp 2 then go for it , there are lots of stories on here from people complaining about services not carried out properly at bmw and the specialists ,get him to list what items will be done will he measure the valves clearances etc

It will only be a bad mark if the next owner tries for a BMW warranty or tries to get some goodwill.

BMW will look at the records and say it's missing its inspection 2.

The BMW guy is ticking the book and stamping it.
And I will have all the bills.
if I went to a BMW specialist, shorly BMW won't have that record.
I'm just saving on the labber instead of £60hr.
Just don't no what to do :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

You mean the "BMW guy " is stamping it on the sly ?
Iffy territory on 2 counts there
I would seriously consider the cash difference for a Ins2 at DW & if its a couple of hundred then go that route , they do a high standard job & the stamp is as good as a main dealers imo
In the future any other work let the guy you know do it & keep a record
I have a trusted indy who i take my cars to so any stamps for work i have done will be his (BMW specialist & Ex BM master tech ) & if future buyers don't like that then heyho .

Thanks I'm going to find out price at Darren woods
My mate been there before with his z3m
Thanks again

You may find if you claim under warranty that they may want to see a VAT receipt for work done.

Check your warranty with regard to servicing.

Erm, isn't that a kind of fraud?

A BMW technician is going to do a moonlight service on your car and then stamp your service book as though it was done at the dealer. Or am I missing something?

Just had a price at BMW garage £941 inc vat
She said abit of a discount becouse of the oil service.

Aren't the service details logged electronically these days?
So there's no hiding place when or if the service history needs to be interrogated.

£941 for a service. What on earth do they do for that money - Insp 2 stamps in my book but they hadnt changed air filter from new. Bet its just a licence to print money and they only do what is really necessary ie nothing much.

They check everything
Change the oils etc
And renew spark plugs
Air filter
Check your service booklet and it tells you.
It's exspencive... The oils quite dear

I have just done all that for £130 using top quality products. Must admit I didnt change the coolant or the brake fluid so can only assume they are very very expensive.

I think Barrow's post should have been in the ///M specific which to be fair has little in similarity to Ins2 on non M Z4s
Far more fluids involved (gearbox ,diff etc ) & far more labour ( valve clearances ) which as you are probably aware soon rack's up the bill
