My 2012 BMW Z4 is due a number of service items shortly, these are an oil service, brake fluid and vehicle check. Have had a look online, what does the vehicle check involve and what is the cost?

Not sure what model you have, but expect about £280 at a main dealer.

£280 for just the vehicle check? I usually use an independent.

Oil, break fluid and check.

The usually do the checks for free.
They are always phoning me! Haha

That’s assuming the stealers actually bother to physically change the oil, filters etc, didn’t on my brand spanker at its first service but still presented me with a nice fat invoice at the ‘Handing over of the keys ceremony’....

Find a good inde OP, you at least stand a chance of getting something for your hard earned....

Still havent got round to this due to work although I have a quote of £172 plus VAT for the elements I listed earlier. However from looking at the above, which I have downloaded, shows the spark plugs needing done every 30k for 2.8i and 45K for the 3.5i. Mine were done at 33k and the car is now at 67k, suggesting its overdue. Have people got them done, what sort of cost would it involve?

This is the one where they take your car in, sit you down with a coffee and come over to you rubbing their hands, saying this is a major service.

£500 at least. Including the oil, brake fluid check etc.

Ive just had an oil + brake fluid change and standard scope done last week at my local BMW dealer £200. According to the BMW service website the cost to change the spark plugs in mine is £131.86 (mines a 23i - two more cylinders than yours).

Just ordered a set of plugs for the 23i, Bosch Platinum £36.
£100 labour not bad for 15 minutes work.

So i can just about do a plug, oil, filter and air filter change for £100 DIY.
Never bothered about stamps, the value of these cars falling like a stone, especially 10 year old car. Keeper anyway.

Just downloaded that service schedule, it states replace plugs at 100k, what a joke.
I would say for optimum performance, 30k and 50k at a stretch.
The old style plugs would probably last forever now with non leaded fuels, but these fine wire platinum burn away.

The quote of £172 plus VAT is from an independent, considering the age of the car, I don't intend using a official dealer. However for interest, from using the BMW online service quote system gives the following: -
Vehicle Check - £63.60
Brake Fluid - £70.30
Engine Oil Service - £129.00
Spark Plug Service (every second oil service) - £101.37
The system also adds Standard Scope - £19.87 for a total cost of £384.07

Will just get a quote for spark plugs from my independent

When they put the key into their system, it usually brings up a more comprehensive list of things. Oil filters, micro filters etc.
I went to BMW Sytner for mine. Maybe prices vary from place to place. Not cheap by any means!

No such thing as a 2.8i or a 3.5i, they’re the 28i and 35i
I don’t know why, i just had to say that :P

Is there any logic behind BMW's numbering, Rob?

About as much logic that’s given to BMW’s fuel quality recommendations i think Buster :D

That’s correct though, all the n20 engined cars are 2.0 which is then followed by the 18/20/28i description
