Servicing

Hi

Just got my coupe recently and trying to figure out which service it needs. It had an inspection 2 in April 2016 has done 5k since but I believe it should be done every 2 years or on mileage is that right? The onboard computer says it needs an inspection service but the book says every other service is an oil service. I think what's happened is it's had 2 oil services in a row before the last service (inspection 2). Anyway long winded question I know but should I just get an oil service? What about the gearbox and diffs as I see no mention of that in the book?

Well it's just had the inspection 2 5k ago so think that might be overkill. I might just get an inspection 1 done though.

The difference between Inspection 1 and 2 on the normal Z4 is minimal, in fact reading the technical documentation it's only an additional air filter check, which I can only assume refers to the cabin air filter.

The spark plugs are a wear based item, and I believe the specified interval is 100k. Gearbox and Diff oil are "lifetime" fluids so don't show on service documents, but yes you should get them changed.

What he said. Diff and gearbox at or after 75k.

Assuming you have no record of fluid changes recently (brakes, coolant etc) I'd say the best thing to do is take it to a BMW specialist and get them to give it a once over, along with a service, new fluids all round including gearbox and diff, perhaps replace the spark plugs too if not done.

That way you know you have a car with everything done properly.

Yeah I've a record of spark plugs, brake and coolant being changed in 2016 as part of inspection 2 service approx 5000 miles ago.

I'd be getting brake fluid done, replacement interval on that is 2 years. Coolant is 2-4 depending on who you listen to, but it should be fine.

Other than that a normal service and inspection would cover everything, plus the drivetrain oils.
