as above really.
im looking at buying a z4mc,the car is coming upto 2years old,the car is an 07.i know its had the 1200 ml service.what would be the next one?how does the bmw servicing go?is it in milage or years?

Its in both!
Up to the service indicator (501 gallons between services) or 2yrs, whichever is sooner.

The services go in the following order:-
Running in service (1200miles, important that its very close to this when done)
Oil service
Inspection 1
Oil service
Inspection 2
Oil service
Inspection 1
etc
You can guesstimate that you get 10-12k between services in general.

If the car hasnt had the oil service then it will be due one soon, guess that would be when it had the 1200 mile service and not when the car is actually 2yrs old though.....what is the service indicator showing to the next service (plus is it saying oil service?) and whats the cars current mileage?

the milage is 14,500,the guy is saying the service is 9000 miles away.im going to see the car on thursday, but i dont want to be hit with a big service more or less just after buying it :o

Sounds like the Inspection 1 service will be next, it should of had and the book been stamped with the running in serivce (1200 miles) and it should of had an Oil service probably circa 10k miles.....Inspection 1 will be 2yrs from this oil service or when service indicator runs the 9000miles down to zero whichever is sooner.
Inspection 1 cost anything from ~£600 - 900....phone round local BMW dealers to get some prices and hopefully your "local" dealer will price match if they arent the cheapest.

For ref my Z4MR has done just under 14k and is showing just over 10k to the Inspection 1, its had the 1200mile and subsequent oil service previously.

I bought mine at 12k from a stealer and I dont beleive it has had the oil service? - didnt see it in the book. But I'm thinking there would have been warnings etc right? Just like there is for a service.

Out of interest, If you get to two years from the last service and you haven't reached a service due to distance, does the service indicator show that a service is due based upon time, or are you expected to work it out for yourself?

I believe the car wont tell you but it does say a max of 2yrs in the service booklet.

Pardeep...what is your service indicator saying when you switch the car on? It tells you how many miles to the next service interval and it should say whether an oil service or inspection service is due at the next service interval.

Oh it says inspection in around 9k miles, no mention of an oil service. I hope my cars had this, guess the only way of finding out is to call the stealers, but they are so useless! Decent service is hard to find these days! Everyones after your cash first!!

I'd get back onto the supplying dealer sharpish and get them to stamp the book assuming they did the service.....no stamp could hinder resale and warranty claims (though the latter should be covered by being recorded on the BMW computer system i'd expect).
If it was an AUC car then BMW do the service if its within a few thousand miles, cant remember the exact amount maybe 4k?

is there a chance that a car could be serviced for its 1200 and there be no record of it???? Im facing this issue while looking to buy a car atm. surely the car would have had warning lights on about it?

I would'nt go near a car that didn't have it's 1200 mile service done at the right time. If BMW do it so soon and for free :o it must be essential! The main dealer should be able to confirm if the car's had one but I'd be very cautious if it's not stamped up in the book.

1200 mile is essential as the oils used are mineral oil and to aid initial bedding in of components, if the book isnt showing as having this done WALK but....there is a chance its been done but the book hasnt been stamped but you'd have to ask BMW to check on thier computer system as it should be recorded if it has been done.
Not sure if the service indicator is set for the 1200 mile service, it does normally count down and tell you when its due though for the oil and inspection services (though this is the mileage limit it should still be done within 2yrs of the last service which the car wont tell you, also brake fluid needs changing every 2yrs which the car does tell you about).

my car is currently showing 600 miles, the service indicator just shows mileage to first oil service ie:15000 miles.
You have to remember to go for the 1200 mile service yourself.

Its surprising how many people dont believe how important this running in service is....assuming its just waffle, but as said above, BMW wouldn't do it for free if not necessary.

There is also a sticker in the windscreen and on the engine! As it's free, missing it is just laziness on the previous owners part

i agree..some people just cant be bothered.
i always pamper my stuff but a guy who lived next door to a friend of mine had a new M3 in about 2003,seemed to have plenty of cash.Anyway he used to thrash the car from cold straight down the road. many folk dont seem to give a toss.
