Servicing schedule and air filter change

Out of interest I opened up the air box today to check on the state of the filter - looked pretty dirty and clogged with leaves etc. Going off the information I found on the forum it is only changed on inspection II - this is theoretically upto 8 years from new? Mine is now just over 3 years old, on my rx8 I would replace this every year so I think I will change it as a precausion. Just thought I`d post incase anyone else wanted to check theirs and change prior to the prescribed intervals.

Cheers

Good point. The service intervals are the longest BMW thinks they can get away with, not what's best for your car under your conditions. Consider service intervals absolute maximums, not recommendations.

The TIS does say "renew more frequently in very dusty conditions", but I'm guessing you wouldn't call your environment "very dusty" ;)

Change mine annualy. Only air to enter the combustion chamber is via the air filter so any restriction reduces performance. Bit like oil - annual change ensure the lifeblood of my engine is in top condition.

same here.

asked questions like this before on the forum and got the impression that the majority stick to what bmw tell you i.e. long service intervals regardless of age which cant be good imo.

I change all the oil and filters annually.
