Looking to trade up to a 3.0 si and am negotiating over an 08 with 53000miles
Its had 3 services - an oil service and brake fluid then an inspection 1 and recently oil filter (?)
I thought it was every 2 years or 17000 miles - inspection 1 then inspection 2 then back to inspection 1?

Its an Approved BMW and they've told me inspection 2 not needed until 2015 or 68000miles.

Is that correct? Can anyone clarify - am intending to go see car Saturday - is this a deal buster?

Thanks for any help. . .

Ok so looking at my service history 06 3.0si 67k on the clock:
15382 oil service
21386 inspection 1
39028 oil service
52636 inspection 2

It's variable mileage servicing (calculated by the car, based on fuel consumption I think) but generally 15-18k miles or 2 years and Oil, Insp 1, Oil, Insp 2 and so on. If the recent 'oil filter (?)' service was an Oil service then that sounds about right.

Yep, variable mileage dependent upon the way you drive. It's actually the distance it takes the car to get through 500 gallons of fuel based on the computer average consumption.

When you turn on the ignition, it should be calling for inspection in some number of miles, that will be the inspection 2. Unless the miles left is a big number, negotiate down the cost of inspection 2.

OK thanks - am going down tomorrow with Steph to take a look - 3 hour journey from Newcastle to Warrington - will it be worth it?

2008 3.0si 53000miles heated seats BMW AUC . . .we shall see.

Thanks for the input all.

:driving:

Good luck Paul & Steph :D

It's the same schedule as your current one, as said, based on fuel consumption that usually works out about every 15,000 miles. If it's not been driven a lot it should at least have had the oil changed every 2 years, and brake fluid should be changed every two years irrespective of mileage. It does read like it has been under-serviced tbh. If you do buy it then an inspection 2 and brake fluid change should be thrown in as part of the deal...

Call ahead and ask them to make sure the car has not been driven any distance so you can drive it from cold as well - I'd be a bit pissed if they'd taken it out for a run to warm it up for me as I'd want to hear the engine fresh.

You want to hear from cold to ensure there is no HVA issue (although it might not do it every time).
