Servicing Questions

Ive decided to get my car serviced after a few weeks of ownership due to its hazy service history.

Somebody on here suggested to get it fully serviced then I will know exactly where I am with it. Taking this advise I have booked it in for an inspection 2.

Am I right in thinking that this includes everything from the inspection 1 service aswell? (wasnt too clear in the book)

My main concern is that the following will be done....

oil + filter
air filter
plugs
brake fluid

The other thing was... do the gearbox fluid and engine coolant last for the life of the car or do some of you get it changed?

I know I could ask the garage these questions but Id like to know what im talking about before I take it to the garage. Ive got the feeling they will try to charge me extra for doing all of the above.

Thanks in advance

Inspection 2 includes everything you listed except the brake fluid change. Coolant should be changed every 4 years, not sure about the gearbox oil though.

Inspection 2 includes the Inspection 1 service elements. Brake fluid is a bi-annual change so if it's within this 2 year timeframe then it won't normally be done. Gearbox is 'filled for life' but doesn't stop you changing it for peace of mind. I've always gone for a full service after buying 'pre owned' - unless a dealer car and its only a few miles from the service stamp. Full service as you quite rightly say gives peace of mind and a good starting point for ownership. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your quick replies, it was actually you Alan that gave me the idea of getting it done

So basically if I ask the garage to change my brake fluid and coolant as extras to the inspection 2 service then I should have covered all bases.
