Servicing question.

I'm kmew to BMW's so not really sure how servicing works with them. I had an astra before and just handed it in while had an MOT for a service along side it and they dealt with it (not much care went in to it), but now on the idrive it says servicing in 'X' many miles for different things, can someone explain how these work? Do I just take it in when it says it needs doing on the computer and pay for each thing individually and take in once a year or 'X' amount of miles and they do what ever needs doing at the time. Clarification would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance :)

Servicing is condition based for most things. The brakes know how much they have left with wear indicators so will estimate when they need to be replaced.

Things like oil, plugs and filters are done on a mileage/age basis but if you drive the car hard or do lots of short journeys it will tell you to replace them sooner.

Just stick to what the car says for servicing. Don't leave it 'til MOT time.

So things need changing at different intervals and just take to bmw to get done at the set times as said by the idrive? Is this not expensive or is it not too bad as there are varying different different times maybe only a couple of months between them.

Follow everything the I drive states, it seems to know what is needed and when.
Cannot comment on costs as I've always taken out the 5 year service pack.
Logically if there is only a couple of months between two items, get both done at the same time (either early or late) cannot matter that much for a couple of months.

Just do what iDrive indicates.

For a new car (which I believe yours is) it's gonna be 18000 miles or 2 years to first service.

I have a 2010 plate just curious about it all as my breaks need doing in 1300 miles

How often should I change my brake fluid? My car is a 2011 z4 in service 12/10. I have 20130 miles.

Brake fluid used to be every 2 years but was changed to 3 years for the first change and every 2 years there after. I would expect it to be done soon then. Not only does the car give you a mileage for oil and brake fluids but also gives you a date and its whatever you reach first.

Brakes you should be able to do yourself or if your not confident I would try and good independent garage as BMW will charge you a small fortune to do it.

If it was my own car ( not leased) i would follow the idrive for coolant, brake fluid, pollen filters etc but i would be having interim oil+filter yearly or every 8k without resetting the menu
18ooo or 2 years with the same oil :o

If I the brakes my self with help from a friend will the idrive reset the milage? And is there any way to reset the idrive if I do the oil etc myself?

No it won't reset itself - quick Internet search shows several examples on You Tube on how to reset :)

Ok thanks guys thanks for all that just to confirm I dont have to have yearly service? Just as according to the idrive or 'x' amount of miles?

Servicing:

- oil change every 2 years
- brake fluid change every 2 years

.......or by 'iDrive' computer assesed date whichever is soonest. :)
