Servicing in the Glasgow or Manchester area

My car is needing an inspection 1 in 2000 miles so poped into Douglas Park (Hamilton) today as I was passing by. I was quoted £800!!!! I live in the Glasgow area but I am down in Manchester once a month for a few days (actually got the car in Manchester) so could easliy get it done down there.

Anybody got any suggestion/experience of other dealers, was expecting a cost more around £600

Cheers in advance!

Hello

Have you tried Douglas Park in town and the service / body shop in hillington Ind. Est? I realise the Hamilton dealer is also DPark but i have had an experience where two branches of the same dealer, in the same town, quote different prices with a considerable difference! That was in Brimingham. When i came up to Glasgow i found that the service price (oil service) was way cheaper in Scotland. The last one to try if you want to stick to the main dealers is Harry Fairbairn in Giffnock. Play them all off against one another.
However if your not bothered with using main dealers then i would recommend 'BMW Independant Car Specialists' by Ibrox.

Let me know how you get on as i have mine coming up soon.

If you need a good, honest, trustworthy dealer in the North West, then I'm sorry but I've had no luck with any of them - well not with any that I've tried (Williams Liverpool, Halliwell Jones Warrington, Halliwell Jones Chester, Williams Manchester, David Holmes Stockport, Williams Bolton).

Not tried (and not planning to, purely due to being so despondent with the whole servicing network) BlueBell Wilmslow, Williams Rochdale, Halliwell Jones Southport.

Had mine done at Haliwell Jones Warrington for £650, ask and they'll price match. They originally quoted £820!!

Phoned Harry Fairbairn and was quoted £665, but I won't take it there. My old fella bought a car off them in December and during the admin they managed to get the house number wrong. 4 months down the line and my dad after numerous phone calls and letters still doesnt have any documents for the car.
He was particularly unimpressed when the car came up on that traffic police car number plate thing as being uninsured. The car is insure at his address not the neighbours where the car is registered!! and it's basically Arnold Clark!!!!!!

Douglas Park (town/Hillington) quoted £670! That over £100 less than another branch of the same dealer!!!! :o

It's stuff like this that puts you off the brand!

I told you! Couldn't believe it myself when it happened to me. But im not complaining - it is a good thing that there is no price fixing between them saves us some ££.
I agree with your HF comment - got burnt by them a few years ago - (Irvine) so wouldn't use them again.

Just don't ask any of them to do anything that BMW hasnt written step by step dummy instructions for - it is too much to ask them to use their 'experience' ! Why we pay such high labour rates i dont know :?

Forget the rest and go for Douglas Park in Dobbies Loan (ex-Henry Bros). All other dealers that i experience of are total rubbish with the possible exception of John Clark but they're in Dundee. Just got my car back from DP and they have been great. A bit of confusion at the start but eventually they did everything they could and more.

Don't go near Harry Fairbairn in my opinion, they damaged my M3 without declaring it and the service manager was totally ignorant about the whole scenario. And it's Arnold Clark.

I've had really mixed experiences with Douglas Park, from horrendous at Hamilton to very good at Hillington. As others have said the price differences between different branches can be startling. Trying to get a decent discount at Hamilton is impossible whilst Hillington have a very realistic approach to prices. Can't speak for Douglas Park at Dobbies Loan, i haven't used it for servicing since it was Henry Bros.

Got it done by Parks Hillington for £600, they also matched a tyre price i got for 2 rears. Was still an expensive day though!

If anyone needs work done in the Manchester area one of my good mates runs a BM dealership so i can ask him for prices. He is a good bloke and takes the Z4 home as his choice of car so may have some scope to look after other z's.
