Servicing Help Please

Hi guys,

I am looking at a second hand z4 from a dealer, need some advice on the servicing schedule please:

z4 2.5si 2006 - First Reg 12/7/2006
Oil service - 10/9/2007 - 4380 miles.
Inspection 1 - 30/3/2009 - 10515 miles.
MOT 11/5/2010 - 15152 miles.

I guess the MOT was done early by the dealer in prep for a sale and they have not managed to shift it, it is a one owner car.

I have a question regarding the brake fluid service - it should have been done at 2 yrs but no record of this, am I correct in stating this? Doing my research on second hand cars I find this a common problem I encounter or is it done as part of the Inspection 1 service? Being 4 yrs old it should have had a second one done by now as well?

The next service due would be an oil service latest by March 2011 or sooner pending on the driving style. Would it be cheeky to ask them to do this before sale?

Am I correct in the above?

Thanks in advance!, it is a bit confusing.

I'd ask for the brake fluid & oil service doing before considering it anyway.

As for whether or not the 'missing' brake fluid services concern you or not, then ask yourself if you would drive it knowing the brakes were faulty? From my point of view, if I can't prove something either way, then I'll err on the side of caution, so if no proof of it being done, then it hasn't been done, and then go from there.

I'd ask the dealer (indy or BMW?) straight. If they've nothing to hide then they'll probably just say they don't know, but if they get all squirmy then you'll know they know it's an issue.

It's quite feasible that they've been done and just not entered into the service history — which is BMW's fault as they can't be arsed stamping books in my experience. But if the previous owner was only doing 3,000 miles a year then they may have thought there was no need, after all not all owners are enthusiasts or mechanically-minded. However you do have to wonder how/when the warning light was reset/extinguished.

Thanks, Its a BMW garage. I did not realise there was a light for the Brake fluid as well?

I might be wrong...

I do know that if you press a button during start up (when it tells you how many miles to next service) the display switches to show the date the brake service is due...
