Servicing help/advice please (BMWAUC)

When I bought my BMWAUC a few weeks ago the dealer explained that one of the stamps was missing from the book (he showed me the book) and explained that he has checked the fob, the servicing record is as it should be, and he will arrange for the dealer who did the work to stamp it and would send me the book.

3 weeks of chasing later I have just received the service book. Car had 22k miles when I bought it.

The only service shown in the book is at 12k miles, the only box that is ticked yes is "Brake Fluid", all other boxes (oil service, inspection 1 etc) are ticked no.

Is it me or does this seem like the car has never had an oil change or a proper service since new? The onboard computer is showing 12k until next service so it has obviously been reset at some point.

Now this is a BMWAUC and I have been assured the servicing is spot on, so would be grateful if you could let me know if my suspicions are founded, and if so, what I can do about it.

It's custom when you buy from dealers that they service car before it goes out,but should be shown in book ?? it does throw book out but onboard will be right. :thumbsup:
 
I don't think it has just been serviced, he didn't mention this to me when I bought it.

The fishy thing is, he has been saying for 3 weeks that he is "tracking down" the dealer that did the first service, but the book has now shown up with his own dealership stamp at 12k in it, dated August 2010. Car was registered in March 2009 meaning it's over 3 years old now.
 
If the car has 22,000 miles on it and is 3 years old then it should have had a oil service at 2 years or 12/15,000 miles? Then inspection 1 at 24/30,000 miles or (four years) with brake fluid every two years.

If it had oil service at 18 months 12,000 miles then it might hve been when a dealer sold it on and did the service early. However, you would expect the OBC to show 2/5,000 miles to inspection 1.
Certainly doesn't sound right to me!

Not so, BMW will only service a car if it's due within 5K or 4 months IIRC.

OP, there is a number you can call as can the dealer, its 0906 209 0001. They can tell you what dealer your car visited on what day. They can't tell you why, but you can then contact the dealer to establish more.

Don't give up though it needs sorting, wouldn't be the first time a main dealer sold an under serviced car as I found out (returned it the next day)
 
If it turns out that the car has been underserviced, what can I do?

Obviously I will take it up with the dealer who sold me the car, is he obliged to e.g pay for an oil service, I have paid a premium for a BMWAUC so expect to be perfect.
 
BMW AUC will only be valid if the car has been properly serviced ie serviced at the appropriate intervals (distance based) or if distance not reached then time based (oil change at 2 year intervals - brake fluid change at 2 year intervals). If the dealer has sold you a vehicle plus AUC warranty and you subsequrently reveal that the vehicle has not been serviced i.a.w. with the service schedule then the AUC is invalid - for me I would want my money back if it proves that its not been serviced properly.

Alan this is not the case, it would appear dealers can use their descretion. AUC means nothing, you need to do all the service checks yourself and if there are any stamps missing ensure they are added before you sign on the dotted line.

Interesting point you make on dealers discretion. Never heard this before and would certainly like to hear this from a dealer as others on here have had the same issue and when contacting AUC they state without a FULL service history as per BMW there is no cover.

As for your second point - something I have certainly been bangong on about for some time now and included in my checklist BUT speople still spend their money without getting the promised full service history, a quick search her will show you this is unfortunately a regular story.
 
I think the issue here is that the dealer specifically told me that the service history was correct and full, just the stamp was missing from the book. Maybe I was a bit naive in believing him but genuinely thought they could not sell a car as BMWAUC if everything was not in order.

I will do some digging today and see if I can get to the bottom of this.
 
Hi- this is a real pain and disappointing!
If you only got the reassurance regarding the servicing verbally I would politely ask for something in writing- write or email the dealer - state you were told the service was all good and can they confirm this- once you have something in writing I think you have a good case in law to return the car- if you want to!

Anotrher consideration is- if this is the delaer you will be using in future they will negotiate with the warranty insurers not you - if all is indeed good then they will do this with no problems and get your work done when needed- you might ask them to confirm they will be able to repair under warranty in view of what they have told you.

The thing is, I love the car and don't want to return it.

Re: the second point, they will not be the dealer I use in future as I had to travel 300 miles to get the car, so will need to take it to another dealer going forward. I've put something in writing to the dealer so will see what happens.

I say this as this is what the dealer told me when I rejected my first ///M due to service history. "We took the view it would be OK" was what they said. There have been a few cars sold on here with after market bit's which really wouldn't be AUC approved but dealers are happy to sell.

Bottom line though is the warranty won't cover the issues that make the car non AUC.
