It really gets me that when you buy a car and you pay for the service inclusive package for 5 years...that all of a sudden my car is not due a service until 30k miles.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if it didn't have the package it would start bleating at me to go and service it every 12 months or 12k miles....

Pisses me off....ok lucky that it doesn't need a service, but am very cynical about the service packages

Didn't get the service package and second service is due in about 4,000, that'll be one a year in effect, perhaps i should have considered it :)

Nearly 11,000 miles now, the engine oil is still at the top level. Service inclusive includes engine oil top-up as well. I don't think the car needs any top-up until the first oil change.

But in five years (60,000 miles), the car will need 2 brake fluid changes, 2 engine oil changes, 1 microfilter, and 1 inspection. The cost of service inclusive is still cheaper than paying these separately.

Cost my employer £300 for it on my 1 series, bit of a no brainer.

Nickm, My thoughts exactly at the time of my first service at 26000 miles, so I was kind of thinking that I will only get two services. However my next service (Inspection 1) will be in 2000 miles @ 37000 total so I might actually get 3..... hmmm just done some math in my head and maybe not, if I get another 26000 from the next it will be 63000 which means I will miss a free service by 3000 miles.... :(

sars, how come you did 26k to your first service and then only 11k to your second?

The second service isn't a service as such but an Inspection I believe, what I find amazing though is that they wont replace the plugs this time round either

Hi, my first service was at 23k. And am due an brake fluid change in October I think.

I'm on 19K and have approx 1000 before first service, glad I got the 5 year inclusive service as part of the deal too.

Added 2 litres of oil in 10,000 miles since I got it

Not servicing a car once in 30k miles is just wrong. Did anyone notice this correlation between the service intervals growing and the number of service inclusive packages being sold? If I had an E89 from new (not leased) and intended to keep it there is no way on this Earth I'd not be having at least an oil change every 10k at the very least.

I guess the thing is most people have these lease agreements (not just E89 I'm talking generally) so the car is never really *theirs* so they don't give a stuff as it goes back after a few years.

Ok, mine has now said it's first service at 22k....another 1200 miles and new rear brrake pads at £316. Is that an ok price? Or shall I get them done elsewhere? 2 litres of oil in 21k miles.....

Hi just had my 30i in for its first Service at LLoyds in Carlisle. The bill came to £288.00 and included oil/filter change, brake fluid service and microfilter. The car has only completed 6K miles. Also was informed of a recall to replace some vents in the rear bumper space? Anyone else had this?

Cheers

Ian

Hey, welcome back IanA, it has been a while since you last posted!

Just booked my car in for a second service @ 37000 miles, whilst on the phone I was given an explanation on the new servicing philosophy of BMW, basically nothing is scheduled, the car tells you what it needs and when it needs it. Thus the car is indicating that it needs oil, brake fluid, drivability? and check front and rear brakes.

Okay now let's stop all this nonsense about the frequency of changing the modern fully synthetic motor oil, as I would like to put some perspective against other rotating mechanical equipment. My car completed 26,000 miles before an oil change, the average speed was 48.7 mph this equates to 533 hours of use or 22 days. We supply safety valves to compressors, for reciprocating types the oil should be replaced every 2000 hours. Thus if we take my average mph and apply that, it would have travelled 97,400 miles!

So let's stop these irrational comments, if BMW tell me that it is okay then it is okay, they will have exhaustively tested engines under every conceivable scenario and really, I mean really, they will not make decisions like this without a huge margin of safety.

+1 :punish:

Yeh really? I mean why would any car manufacturer want you to excessively wear out your components eh?
Surely that would mean BMW would make even more money from either you, (or the person that you sell your car to) if / when the components fail early? why on earth would they do that?
So if the oil needs changing more often than BMW are saying it does, or the servicing needs to be performed more often than we are being led to believe, who benefits here, customers or manufacturer?
Go figure!

like the other issues where the huge margin for safety was not considered.....

1) failure to create a recall of wheels that crack (causing instant loss of air pressure and associated danger)

2) instead of recalling "problematic" fuel pumps they felt a "software fix" was acceptable (which resulted in the US motor industry intervening) I had this happen on a mountain road and it is NOT nice
for example...http://www.dailyfinance.com/2010/07/23/bmws-engine-problems-a-safety-risk-to-drivers-and-the-compa/

3) less than a year ago - 350,000 cars recalled "A leak may develop in the power braking system of the affected cars, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance, according to a statement from the company."

4) Anyone else had a BMW R1200GS? The United Kingdom Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has issued nine separate vehicle recalls covering the front brakes,[14] anti-lock braking system,[15][16] throttle cable,[17] fuel pump,[18] clutch,[19] final drive assembly,[20] brake pipes,[21] and gearbox

5) and so on ....

Not having a go at you personally sars, but I cannot agree with you on the safety issue. People should be made aware they still have to be responsible and trust their instincts, we are all responsible for our own safety, do not expect a large corporate to always get it right, especially when they (& We) all know every time that a safety recall is issued that the share price goes down.

Call me a cynic but the truth is out there if you look for it, that's all.

if you feel your vehicle needs to be better looked after than the manufacturer is saying it does, follow your instincts, change the oil more
