Servicing - Conditional or time based?

I ask this question as I have just noticed that my car shows it requires an oil change on 6/13 but also says in 6000 miles, also for the next service it also shows a date (9/13) and a mileage. What takes priority, date or miles?
 
Date if you dont hit the mileage. You can just have an oil service if you want if 6k will take you a year or two.
 
All the times can be seen on the clock when engine just started but don't move, or take the key to bmw and ask for a print out. The date can be many things not just oil service and is only a prediction on how you drive/ road conditions.

I have listed the date and mile specific items in several other posts and have a range so 3K or 70 days. My last 10 plate was due several items in Jan brake oil change, Feb major oil service and March MOT and check but I could combine all 3 into the latter. However the major oil service depends on milage so you will see that the date changes depending on the milage.

Will still depend on date is you don't do the mileage in two years.
 
Umm the 2 year fixed date is for brake oil change not oil service.

So don't do 18K miles in 2 years you only need brake oil change and not a oil change.
 
I asked the dealer to change my oil at 8,000 miles and four months old due to my driving style heating the oil more than the average user. As the first 2,000 miles were taken easy I have decided to change every 6,000 miles. I have also had the brake fluid changed to 5.1 dot.
 
quad, have u remapped yet, just found I can get 65 more horses for mine but im still running it in.
 
Yes, at about 1,500 miles. I don't believe in the generic plug in box type and the figures stated. I am worried that due to every engine being slightly different there could be a dangerous peak you don't know about. Anything out of the ordinary can be smoothed out or enhanced for better torque throughout the range.



 
I follow the manufacturers plugs,pollen+fuel filters ,coolant/brake fluid schedule's but oil & filter is every 8k or 12 months whichever comes round first :wink:
 
quad, so best to go and put on rolling road like you, thats a massive performance gain on that curve your at origional bhp at less than the running in 4500 rpm, and such low rpm torque . How do you go about servicing and wrty if bmw see that they will flip? I would rather have a hybrid, a box tested on the rolling road but something I can unplug when I need to hide it.

Also Some give a wrty on engine, gearbox, clutch hand break issues if bmw do not pay up.

quad just seen your photobucket images, like the shopping trolly / carport. See u have a spiced up mini. My godfarther who is a mechanic had a mini 35 years ago stuck a v6 in the back. well funny.
 
BMW would need to prove that any alterations caused failure. Been up front about any modifications is favourable in court rather than trying to hide it with plug in boxes that leave marks on the ECU data. I was going to have the down pipe de cat and a boost up to 408hp but talking to someone in the know who deals with warranty claims said this would be classed as excessive for performance purposes only and not for the benefits of fuel economy.

No - It has an engine oil change every two years if you don't do the miles!
