Servicing Advice Required

I bought my Zed from BMW Coventry on the 31st August 2011, i've just noticed the brake fluid change icon showing on the dash. I 'm surprised by this as the service booklet says that the dealership i bought the car from did an oil change and brake fluid change on 22nd July 2011.

Service history as follows:

Running in check @ 1,213 miles
Oil & Brake Fluid @ 12,707 miles
Oil & Brake Fluid @ 21,588 miles (from dealership i bought the car from)

To me it looks like the dealership should have carried out an Inspection 1 rather than oil change, is this assumption correct? I'm also assuming the car shouldn't need brake fluid changed either so quickly.

Advice appreciated.

That's right. It should have had an Inspection 1, not an Oil Service. The brake fluid is timed - once every 2 years, regardless of mileage; so it depends on the age of the car. More regularly shouldn't put you off though! Mine has had 3.

Thanks for confirming, not very happy with the dealership to be honest, sure i'd be within my right to complain and ask for Inspection 1 to be carried out?

Ha I bought my car from same garage, had a similar problem but got it resolved. Looks like it should have had an ins 1. However in some extreme cases where cars do low mileage cars can have oil services in a row. Regardless of miles they should have a service every 2 yrs so perhaps that's why.

Maybe the car was 2 yrs since its last service and 3000mls til ins1 so they have oil serviced it to save money. A bit cheeky but not necessarily the wrong thing.

Ha small world. Would i be within my right to complain to the dealership to get Inspection 1 carried out free of charge Daz?

See my edit, it depends on the circumstances. Don't ask you don't get, let me know the dates of the services. Iirc AUC rules state they have to service if the obc states 4000 or less to service.

It might be you need to get an ins 1 carried out in a few months.

Dates added, Inspection is showing on the dash in 13,500 miles....

14-Nov-07 - Running in check @ 1,213 miles
16-Oct-09 - Oil & Brake Fluid @ 12,707 miles
22-Jul-11 - Oil & Brake Fluid @ 21,588 miles (from dealership i bought the car from)

In my opinion, it is clear cut. Your car has gone almost 2 years and 10,000 miles - It should have had an Inspection 1.

I'd be requesting an Inspection 1 at the very minimum to be performed ASAP.

That's what i'm starting to think!!

Yeah looks like they have been cheeky there but they can go 13k if driven in a certain way, unlikely though looking at yours.

Give them a call, if you don't get anywhere call BMW uk.

I would suggest it's actually grounds for rejection personally, so the least they can do is compensate. If they're any good, they'll want to keep you happy. :)

Result, Getting Inspection 1 free of charge, no kick back from the dealership which is refreshing for a change. :D
