ive had my car for a year, when i bought it it came with an engine service so new plugs filters oil. which i have reciepts for. about 1K miles after the inspection 1 light came on and a friend who works for BMW reset it for me and gave it a quick look over saying it was fine. the only think i couldnt have was a stamp.

so now im a year on, i think i ought to get an oil change done which is fine by me. the service indicator is at least 1000's of miles off needing inspection 2 (about 9K) i think.

what else should i change? air filer obviosuly but what about pollen filters, plugs, fuel filters etc? i was thinking about doing it myself as it looks pretty easy and im pretty handy with the spanners esp with the filter up the top. what make fliters would people recomend(i used to do oil on all my other cars)
 
You should do what is detailed in your log book for either inspection 1 or 2

Sounds like you've skipped an Inspection 1, and done an oil service instead - so the service schedule is out of line?

I think the car is aware what type of service is due and when, mine's had it's Insp2 and knows it's due an oil service in ~18 months and/or some large amount of miles i'll never do.

pretty much, the guy i know who works for bmw said he did everyhting that was needed for inspection 1 that wasnt done when i bought it but couldnt stamp the book. so he reset the dash which was beeping at me saying inspection 1.

i assume inspection 2 is next but its been a year and i dont think doing an oil change would do any harm. just want a heads up on what else might be worth doing. things like filters/plugs/etc are not expensive and easy to do yourself

it it was beeping saying inspection 2 id take it to an indipendant and get it done but its no where near that.

im guessing the millage that is flashed on the screen in the binnacle when you turn it on is how long is left till service is due?
 
I got the bits from ajay car pats from my local store (jayar.co.uk) cant recommend them enough I will be getting dampers and brakes from shortly
£130.00 for 7 litres of oil, oil filter, 6 spark plugs, air filter and engine flush. took me a morning with a friend who had a large jack to get under the car.
as I rang bmw who wanted £536.00 for an inspection 2, which covers the above bar an inside cockpit filter thingy which im not bothered about.
