ok, so a service on a z4, BMW franchise or another, are they expensive? are they special? Seems to me they are just an engine
 
Loads of information on running costs available on the site, try a quick search (God, I can't believe I've become someone who says that, must be having a bad day!). To be honest, your final statement confuses me...

And me to..... Certainly wouldn't take mine to 'Quick Service (no questions asked) Underneath the Arches etc and only a mobile contact number. You get what you pay for so either a trusted dealer or a good indie.
 
Whats your with doing it yourself. oil, air, pollen filters and spark plugs easy to do, same for pads, although I have not done or needed to do the rears.

Nothing at all apart from possibly de-valuing the car and making it harder to sell because of the lack of registered history. Up to the individual really.
