service, should i get one?

no matter what forum your on, you always get people who think they are better than the rest and put other people down....
but thanks to the others for their advice

Despite all the comments, I would say get a service done, for the £200 cost you could save far more if the engine goes pop due tools oil etc

As others have said for many reasons you should get a number of service items done, sooner than later..

Firstly you have no real idea what the service condition of the car was like when you bought it….many cars of that age tend to get neglected ‘ poor servicing on what was already a sparse schedule..

At a minimum pls get the brake fluid changed..it has a two year life..

Change the oil and filter..get feedback on how contaminated the oil and filter were..

That’s the minimum…

Gearbox and diff oils sound like good candidates for change too..

Fresh air filter and plugs rounds off a recuperative service.. :thumbsup:
 
Hi Z4dan, welcome to the forum. I've been where you are, I was probably driving for 10+ years before I had a car serviced. Buy for a grand or two (often a lot less), drive until it dies, repeat. Nothing wrong with that at all, but as others have said if you want your car to last you will need to look after it.

The thing is though, at that age and mileage, how much is it worth? How much extra life are you going to get from it by spending a few hundred each year on servicing and maintenance? After nearly 3 years you've probably had your moneys worth already so hardly a disaster if the engine dies in 6 months and you have to scrap it.

Thats what i was thinking but i love the car, its got great spec so i want it to last and to be honest i cant afford a few grand on another car right now. ive booked it in for a full service
 
You could always DIY to save a bit of cash I started servicing my own cars a few years ago. Oil, filters and spark plugs can be done pretty easily on the drive with a few basic tools. As others have said oil and brake fluid changes are pretty cheap maintenance as a minimum, never too late to start :thumbsup: :)
