service schedule

I was looking in the hand book but couldn't find the definition of the types of service. mine is saying i have 6500 miles left till "oil service" and i wanted to know what this was.

the service schedule is a little out for my car. although previous owners had it looked after it has a bit of a gap around the last inspection 1. when i bought the car it had a full engine service so new plugs, filters and oil. but the inspection 1 light came on just after i got it. A friend who at the time worked for bmw in the service dept had a little look over the car and said he could see nothing wrong and including the stuff that was done when i bought it was basically the same as an inspection 1.

so my point is i want to bring the car back in line with its servicing. if this is inspection 2 due up then for me the best time to afford this will be in november/dec time so i was planning on having it done early based on the miles left. If this is simply an oil change and i have another 10K till inspection 2 then i will leave it till it runs out.

ok in addition to this i found this on another site

15k miles -- Oil service
30k miles -- Inspection 1
45k miles -- Oil service
60k miles -- Inspection 2
75k miles -- Oil service
90k miles -- Inspection 1

so my car has 62K on it. the last one that needed doing according to the computer was an inspection 1 and that was only 10K ago so its really out of kilter. is there a time dependance on this too?

one of the reasons i bought this car is when i looked though the service schedule i saw it was bought new and serviced at a BMW specialist near where i lived. i went into this place and asked them about the car and they gave me quite a lot of detail about its servicing and history so i'm sure the mileage is not dodgy.

i wonder if the inspection 1 that came up and was cancelled for me was actually the 90K one and the car has always been serviced early on the mileage side of things. it wouldnt surprise me. the specialists didnt give any info on the owner but they did say it was a local to them (it also had a private plate on at the time) that place is really posh and expensive and given the car is fully loaded with options im guessing it was owned by someones wife who just poodled about in it.
