ok 4th z4 but first new shape

took it in for its 2 year break fluid change only to be called that they had done the 1st service as well.

the service indicated 9K as it had done 15K and was made 1/2010 with reg 6/2010. I was a bit shocked a nd questioned why they had done it but they said its variable or 2 years whichever sooner.

My service book does not show anything and the old ones indicated quite precisely time or distance for each.

I have 2 issues
1) work done without my consent, I specifed to be called on extras and it was only a dreak fluid cahnge.

2) how do I know if I have missed anything to ensure warty.

They did start to say having a performance car you need to ensure oil is changed early, to which I said its my 4th and understand the old principle of looking after a car.

However I am a process engineer and push things to what the designers say. If its 20K before oil change thats what it will be, 10K so be it. but I will do everything to the second, mile or 99.9% thats what its designed to do. As a process engineer I do build in tolerances and know that the specifications also build this in.

I will not go over the top on looking after it, so no I will not change oil at 5K or waxsol the underside and doors. I use autoglum and enjoy waxing it, after so much daily commute I cant read the number plate as so much country road dirt has built up it takes 2 washes to get through. Infact few weeks ago I had a 4X4 pull next to me and pulled down his window and congratulated me on my camaflauge which was worse than his after a fantastic weekend offroading through muddy feilds lol.

My view, its a car and is made and designed to be used and abused, its not a f1 with a 200 mile life span. Its a premium car with lots of research and development. I do treate it to and will pay BMW for the oil, and screenwash (I put 1l of oil in the other week which I lost) and service, but only by the book.

It should all be "condition based servicing" so they only do what the car tells them needs done, but the maximum time between services is 2 years.

I would argue that would go against the first registered date, but you booked in for brake service which is at 2 years, so oil service would be due at same time.

They should have called you and I would argue this point with them and get a cost reduction as they did not call you.

I think the price I eventually did pay was not bad for both break and 1st service. Condition based yes so according to the dispaly had 9K to go.

Currently its showing 3/2013 and 20K. I guess I would not be so niffed that this was described in the service books but I only got the car in Nov for main dealer. If I knew it was not just break fluid I would have insisted they did the service as part of the deal, I was under the impression it was 12K remaining but 2 months for the break fluid.
