Dose anyone know or offer any advice as to what oil goes in the gearbox and diff of a 03 3.0l z4??

Been looking I can't find an answer?

Also any help info on the sticky steering problem wouldn't go a miss. Has any one fixed it without a 2k repair bill or a new rack??

I will say thanks in advance I know someone will help.

Try to put some grease on the joints,it worked for me, they both visible on the drivers side

Thanks Marius I had read that somewhere else. Did you have a similar feeling problem. Its almost like a fwd car under steering? And if it works or helps i will be a happy bunny!!!

Any help on the diff and gearbox oil any one?

Where did you find the info on if it the right stuff? I am sure it is i just cant find a definitive answer any where??

From what I've been told the diff oil that they use is long life stuff and lasts up to 100k miles. I got all my oils changed about 3 months ago and was told not to change the diff oil because of this :?

Yeah I had heard that to. But the oil in mine is still 10 years old!! Maybe leave the diff. The gear box oil needs changing 1st and 2nd are a bit notchy.

Put Amsoil manual synchromesh oil in..

Its superb

That stuff looks good I have read some very good reviews. A few saying that it fixes the problems I have been having. So I will be ordering some tomorrow. Thanks for the tip Z4M-2006

No problem..

I have used it in a few vehicles and it does what it says......Its around £34 for 2 litres delivered IIRC...

Castrol syntrax 75w 90 for the diff in 3.0 si , believe same in yours just under 1 litre needed . Easier job on the earlier cars as I believe it has a drain plug unlike the later ones which need the oil syphoned out . Changed mine for peace of mind at 30,000 miles

It does indeed have a drain plug on the diff

Change both at the same time, if your gonna get oily you might as well do gear and diff oil

If you go on Opie oils till it your car it gives you a list of all the oils suitable

Top tip

I ordered a new drain plug for the gear box. As it seems to have a seal on it. And even though I torqued it up to what tis said it was weeping oil he next day, luckily (or unlucky) I still had it on stands as I was doing the brakes the next day. So I tweeked it with a ratchet and it snapped the flat part off with the seal

So ordered one from bmw only a couple of quid but had to swap plugs quick with out making to much mess lol

That's fine mate

I don't intend driving for a while now anyway it's too cold for roof down and slippy so the car is staying inside and I go away week after next

So no rush

Thanks Sam

I know what you mean. I am supposed to be fitting a quad exhaust with Luke Mace on Sunday. If we get the snow we are supposed to that might be off
