Service Question...

Hi guys,

So, in my usual manner i haven't done anything about servicing the Z4. I've only just gone over 15k miles on the clock and the car is telling me it needs inspection.

I assume this is the inspection 1 service?

I've owned the car since 2010 and not serviced it once! Is that bad ( :cry: ) Only done about 12k miles though?

How much should this service cost? I'm clueless...

This sounds like an E89. (Thus this thread was started in the wrong section) I know E85s should have an oil service every two years even if the service indicator isn't calling for it. I would expect E89s are the same. I do mine once a year for good measure.
 
I would suggest for what it costs each year at the mot time have the oil changed ! Weather it needs it or not ! :roll:
 
Is this johnny Essex of the e89 world? 4 years without a service :lol:

Modern oil is decent quality so won't degrade as much as the older stuff, but still not good for either your engine or resale value to not have it serviced.

It doesn't cost much. An oil service for mine was 120 quid from a specialist.
 
I know, its bad form from my part, but it has been off the road for a year too!

So all i need is the oil service from a BMW specialist? Is that technically known as the inspection 1?

No, the Inspection I is much more thorough, all the work that should be completed in the different types of service are listed in your Service Booklet.

To be fair, not really. The bulk of an Inspection service is just that, visual inspections. They include very few actual parts. If you drive your car very little, a £50 National or ATS oil service every couple of years will suffice, other than that the only other thing that should really be done more often is the brake fluid (every 2 years.)

These cars are getting old and cheap now, so although a super car service history (and budget) will obviously not do the car an harm, you won't see a return on the investment.

I'd recommend keeping to the service schedule/indicator however many miles the car does. The Inspection is more than an oil service. I'm all for using an indy rather than main dealer though past the first few years of ownership. If you're planning to p/x the car eventually it's not hugely important as regards selling on but for a private sale a good service history is valuable.

Inspections on these are few and far between anyway, and you never know it might throw up a failure. These are sports cars not daily runners after all.
 
I went to my local dealer to inquire about changing the oil as I have had the car nearly 2 years and it still has 7500 mls to the next service.I must have covered about 8K so far, I was told that it was not necessary as the oil was designed to last right through and to wait till its due its service. All the time I have had it I have never needed to top it up with oil and she is running sweet, so I will probably follow his advice. Got a quote of £400 for a Insp 2 through a mate at BMW. I assume this is reasonable?

Got a quote from STR in Norwich for £345 for an inspection 2 with brake fluid change last month.
