Service Question

Hi

Great forum, i've been a guest for a while but now finally got around to joining!

I maybe being a numty but I am a little confused over the servicing on my Z4.

Is a 2006, 2.0i SE with 11000 miles on the clock. I bought it last April from a BMW main dealer.

It has no service stamps in the book apart from the PDI so I assume its never had a service.

When I switch the car on it is saying that is needs an Oil Service in 4000 miles time, when I push the little "clock" type button it comes up with 03/08 untill I read the book I assumed that this meant the service was due is 4000 miles or by 03/08 which ever came sooner. Now as I understand it the brake fluid needs changing on the 03/08 and the oil service only goes by miles - is this correct?

Is it right that the brake fluid needs changing before the first oil service? seems a bit odd to me. Does this mean if I only do 3000 miles this year the car will go 3 years without an oil change?

Does anyone know the rough costs of a brake fluid change and an Oil service?

Many thanks!

The 2.0 doesn't need a running in service only the M engines do so it shouldn't have anything other than a PDI. The oil service is due in 4000 miles which is about right (circa 15000mls depending on how its been driven - yours looks average, a good sign). The brake fluid needs changing every two years and the system is showing March this year (03/08) I'm guessing it was made/new/sold in March 2006. So everything looks alright. IIRC the oil service is about £120 and the fluid about £80 but shop around - my dealer will match the lowest regional quote.

Can I bump this with similar numpty question??

My Zed was born in April 2007 and so I am approaching 12 months use. My digital display tells me my oil service is due in around 3800 miles (I've done around 13,500 miles so far).

Am I supposed to book the car in for a 12 month service in April 2008 or do I wait for the indicator to tell me when to take it for its oil service (which is probably in another few months yet).

Sorry for the idiot question!

Wait for the indicator to tell you.

As I do a lot fewer miles, I do my service every two years, together with the brake fluid service.

Hi,

I too am new and this is my first reply. However I have just had my 54 plate Z4 3.0l serviced and had clarity put on this by the dealer. They recommend that you have the car "oil serviced" by what ever the service indicator states or 2 years which ever is sooner.

The brake fluid is to be serviced according to the date shown when you press the clock. The reason for this is that they state that the quality of the oil can deteriorate over time as well as distance.

I paid £300 for an oil service and brake fluid change. That was from a BMW dealership in Bristol. Very good customer service also.
