Service Plan

We bought our Discovery 4 in February 2017. It went to a main dealership for a service last year. No drama - job done and we paid.

Went to same dealership this year for a service. Nothing to pay - car has a service plan - original owner paid for 5 upfront!

On questioning why we had to pay last year we are told that it's our responsibility to state that the car has a service plan although they did accept that was tricky as we didn't know! They have offered a half price service once the paid-for ones have been used.

What do you guys think of that?

I think they are being pretty reasonable. Assuming the plan does not automatically show up on their system. Why would they be expected to go searching to check.

I suppose there's a bit of annoyance in there, with them not spotting it last time when they have this time (I hate inconsistencies!). But all things considered, great news!

That is annoying, but at least they've offered something.

Hopefully you'll still have it at the time!

Seems reasonable, but surely as it was a main dealership, as soon as they put put the car registration into the system it would have shown up???
Why did it show up this time?

You would think as you paid for the last service they just add a service to the plan. This way the plan would still have 5 services paid for in advance.
The system they use or the reception staff or both must be not suitable for purpose,I would suspect it's the reception staffs incompetence .
We have a Rav 4 on a service plan, never any questions regarding payment.

Isn't the service after the plan ends usually the first expensive one?

That may not be such a bad deal if that is the case.

Thanks for the feedback.

On balance I'll probably accept their offer, but as Mr Tidy states, we may not own the car that far into the future and I think that the deal will be with that specific dealership, which may not work if there's another owner by then. And even if we do still own it, we may not live near to that dealership by the time that the half-price service comes around.

It's the inconsistency that bugs me. Surely there should be a procedure which the service team follow every time. Last time they didn't check, this time they did. :headbang:

Late to this party, but I guess you can be happy that at least they checked this time around and now have future free services. Their half price offer is rather a long way off and as you say things can change and you may not benefit. Like you, I would accept the offer though.

No.

You either want a refund or an extra service for free, not a half price one.

If you opt for the extra service, make sure you get it confirmed in writing aswell so that they don’t try and charge you full price when it comes to that last service.
